This ^^^^^ and later models do not have a transmission mounted speed sensor. They have a hole, but have no gear or tone wheel on the the output shaft.
The 89-91 E4OD has the speed gear in the transmission tail shaft. 92-96 used a differential speed sensor and the tailshaft had the hole, but a plug in it, but the output shaft was not cut for the speed gear.

I just saw you sent a msg and tried to reply to it. For some reason couldn't get it to work. Same reason I never post pics I guess. Anyway, this thing's not in my way, but I don't forsee needing it so if TXTrailerdaddy doesn't want/need it then you are welcome to it.
As mentioned before although it shifted fine the short few miles I drove it after adding fluid - guy I got truck from said it lost fluid from front seal, while towing I think. Not sure if a new seal would solve that or not.
It is still in the truck in woods behind my house, engine has been pulled so not much keeping it there besides mount and bailing wire from bellhousing bolts to cowl.
Hey I appreciate it. I found a supplier that will sell me a complete trans without needing a vin, So, I'm going to go that route. I really do thank you for the offer.
Thought I read some post awhile back with a few guys opting to swap their C6 for the Ford AOD automotic over-drive transmssion that's non-electronic and if I remember correctly that pulled them from ~ 1988-89 F-350s.

sorry for my ignorant questions
What did 1988-89 F-350 have for engines? 460ci ?

The 350 probably had the 460 or 7.3L diesel. Maybe the straight 6 but not sure about that. Other engine options for F series was 302 and 351w might have been out then can’t remember.
I suppose I don't understand BLK79 remark that "No AOD's ever behind anything with the 351M/400, 429/460 bellhousing pattern."
school me please, I'm green and in need of information/correction
I remember reading somewhere about too much torque from the newer engines, is it anything to do with that?
If Ford put AOD in 1988-89 F-350 with 460ci engines, that seems to contradict my memory of what I read. So I must not be catching what BLK79 is saying.

They just didn’t build the aod in that bellhousing bolt pattern. The early AOD probably would not have lasted long behind those motors anyways. The AOD was available on the 302 motors, as I had an 86 with one.
So I just ordered a complete E4OD from www.transdepot.net also known as dannystrannys on Ebay. Just under $2500 delivered to my door, with no core, includes tailshaft housing, transgo shift kit, multi disc billet convertor and all 94 and up electronics and factory upgrades. I'm happy. Now Im off to USShift to get the controller. Its a bit cheaper straight from them than getting it from retailer. Hopefully I will be able to document this swap. I get ahead of myself and don't always take pictures along the way.

Please do document!!!
Lots of pictures, and please for heaven's sake... post up your mileage / fuel receipts after it's done!
I've got a 400 that loves to chug fuel. I've been pondering ways to make it sip from a straw, but I can't stand the thought of never hammering on it at a red light
Quickshift4 ordered from www.usshift.com I got the whole package. Controller, wire harness and throttle position sensor for Holly carb. $885 delivered. I'll post pics as these things come in.

Ford never mated the AOD to any engine larger than a 351. And there were not many 351s that had an AOD. The AOD was never produced with a bellhousing that would mate to a 400 or 460.
