About ready to put in a reman transmission. Had a shift kit in the old transmission and if not already included with this one was thinking about installing one. Figured now is a good time before putting the trans in the truck. Can't remember what I had in the old one, 14 years ago. What's a good one to put in?
It kinda' depends on your level of mechanical ability, and the cleanliness of your working environment. Dust and dirt are killers in devices with fine clearances and tolerances,
If you want to get a complete accumulator, already modified, they're available.
However, if you want to try a do-it-yourself kit, look into Sonnax parts kits for the accumulator. I did it that way about 150,000 miles ago, and have been completely satisfied with the results for the last fifteen years or so. Still have the same OEM trans, now with just over 270,000 miles on it.
If you want to try that way, I can look up the part numbers and their suppliers.
Thanks Pop. I actually found the receipts for the one I originally put in. It was the Sonnax kit for the accumulator. Like you it was 15 years ago in 2004. I'll probably go with the same thing. I was happy with it. It should be easier this time with the transmission sitting on the bench instead of me crawling under the truck. For all I know the transmission I'm getting may have it. Still waiting for the build list from the guy I'm getting the tranny from. I'll probably check anyway.
Hey Batgeek..when you do get around to the Sonnax install, you mind posting, with pics, of a how-to/went about it? I got the kit but, like other parts that are waiting in their boxes, i just have yet to find my nutz n bolt to go forth with the install
