Torque converter
Hey guys, im new in here. I have a 01 f150 with the factory 4r70w trans. Last year we got a popup camper. Unfortunately my truck struggles with the weight. So i wanna upgrade the trans with a "monster" heavy duty trans. I also wanna get a new converer. However i cant find a 100% legit answer to this question. What is the stall rpm on my oem 5.4. Can someone please help. Monster has converters i get with the trans but without knowing what the stall is now, i cant choose

I think it's about 2,200 RPM.

ok thank you, i kept getting answers. Every where from 1200 -2400 lol so if i get a 1600-1800 stall converter that should be good for towing an better then the factory oem.

I don't know if it would be better, but it definitely will be lower.

One more thing to help the trans is cancel OD when towing. Third is a much stronger link through the trans.

That isn't necessary. It's designed to tow in overdrive. You won't hurt it by turning off overdrive, you'll just burn more fuel.

yeah i do that now. Unless im on a flat surface for a long period of time then ill let it go into OD . Otherwise i turn the od off.

According to my torque converter distributer the factory stall is 1900-2200. A low stall converter is 1600-1800. Hope this helps. Good Luck

Why not change the axle gearing instead of the transmission?
