Im not sure if I did good or not, but I'm picking up another driveline, this ones from an f150, 4.2 4r70w and whichever lever shift t case they used. It's an 02 so hopefully the transmission plugs are the same. 450 bucks, comes with accessories and I might get the drive shafts just to have more pieces for when the custom ones are built. Also comes with engine and trans wiring harness(es). I guess the 4.2 will be a slow back burner build with all the supersix motorsports forged rods and pistons. Then after the current engine gets turboed and eventually dies il have something to replace it built to handle the extra stresses. That's in the far distance though, I gotta get these axles installed . I hope my body man finishes up in the next couple weeks. All this waiting is gonna cause me to spend money on stuff I don't need til way down the road haha
.
That is nice. And with that diesel I could tow anything I'd ever need to tow. I'm hoping to be under that budgetwise when the 4x4 conversion is all said and done though. Then I can start spending money that isn't a "need" quite as much.
As I mentioned before I'm greatly considering some sort of forced induction, nothing too crazy like the guys on the v6mustang forums, but a decent reliable 300hp should be more than enough power to move this van and tow my atvs and occasional small stuff or materials for home improvement's, if it's stuff too big to fit in the van. I'm thinking with electric fans and the fact it's a v6 there should be room to work a turbo or super charger in there. I'm sure a scoop and/or louvers will be in order to aid I airflow to help stay cool in that tight compartment. But onto what I was getting at, I'm picking up a 4x4 transmission in the next couple weeks with t case and spare engine. I am planning at least a soft rebuild, it's supposed to be a working unit but I really only want to do the transmission once so I figured may as well update things for my maybe future power goals. I am planning on the jmod but was wondering if there's anything else I should have done while it's apart. I will more than likely do the jmod myself, it depends how much more the shop will charge me to drill a couple holes bigger. I also will be adding a cooler and gauge to help keep temps in check on the tranny. Also does anyone have a recommendation on a better torque converter? Or is a stock replacement good enough? Do it nice or do it twice, right?
I am not planning on driving this thing like a race car but I won't complain about having more power, even though I'm satisfied with the amount of power as is with the van empty aside from my wife, me, my power chair and 4 35inch tires not on wheels. I have 4.10 rear gears with the sock size tires now, my 4x4 axles are 3.73 and have good 285 75 16s so I'm not sure how sad I am going to be when it's together and the power is noticeably less. I know I'm going to be re gearing but not right away. Il use low range off road and will have to keep o/d off on these rural roads for the time being. Even though the gear calculator I used says it won't be that hateful I think the weight of the van and aerodynamics of a brick will say otherwise. Plus when I add an actual load to it. Although who knows like I've said I see alot of v6 cans and f150s being overloaded and abused pretty regularly and no major complaints except low power. So for what I'm doing it might work pretty good or good enough. We will see.
Why can I only get into forums through my email and not through browser? This is pretty annoying since if I get out of my email my search disappears. It really pisses a guy off to go through 56 pages to find something helpful to lose it and have to start all over again with the search and trying to find that one bit of information. These are the things that make me hate internet and technology.

Often times such instances are NOT the fault of the internet and/or technology---many here don't have any issue like you're describing. Perhaps ask the site administrator to check into your issues?
After much reading, I'm still a bit unsure, but has anyone had positive experience with the sct tuners on an Econoline with the 4.2? The f150 and mustang guys both seem to have a couple preferences for hand held tuners, sct x4 was one of them. In my eBay and Craiglist scouring I found an sct x4 that says it works on my van. It's hard to convince myself to spend 400 bucks on a tuner, and it sounds like it would be best to Dyno tune it also for a couple different tunes to store on the unit, if I am understanding what I read properly. The features sound great on the description of the sct unit, but I'm not sure how many I'd actually use besides changing gear ratio and tire size and possibly shift points. The van is going to be stock for quite awhile engine wise unless my luck finds a great deal on a turbo or supercharger setup.
Should be picking up most of the rest of my major parts this weekend if everything works out.
I will need to find a 1356 t case though, or does anyone know if I could use a 205? Will the speedo sensor bolt onto a 205 and work? Or be made to work fairly simply?
I hope the 4x4 trans has nice fluid and not full of crud and shavings. Its supposed to work but will be getting a "soft rebuild" at minimum. Not sure what that will set me back but the last I had a quote it was approximately 600+- for that and to swap out put shafts if it didn't need anything and they sourced the 4x4 output parts. But it would get some sort of warranty probably 30 days which I don't know if I would even have it installed before the warranty runs out. I haven't read about 4r70w enough to feel confident in rebuilding it myself. Jmod seems like a breeze though, any input on that on a truck that gets driven more as a truck than a street warrior red light to redlight machine?
Well my build is taking another turn on this adventure, the quarters and rear lower quarters were exactly as bad as I figured they'd be. But the rocker rust is pretty extensive under the driver's front door, my body man hasn't gotten around to the passenger side yet. Pretty much everything below the floor level of the van in this area is crust. After a brief conversation with my body man we may be doing the first Econoline with boatsides, at least that he or I have seen. Since I'm going with 4x4 and this is going to get used, not as an offroader but old log roads and stuff to get to hunting spots or camping, I think it might be beneficial and since the metal being added will be thicker it should add some ridgity and help slide along in washes and over those hidden rocks and stumps rather than crushing my rockers. It will be kind of Mad Max looking but with a function other than getting rid of rust. It's going to make a big step for anyone else who might drive my van to get in but it won't affect me at all. With custom built bumpers and the monstaliner finish I think what I'm picturing in my mind will look pretty mean when it's all done.
I have my 4x4 driveline now. It's a spare 4.2, 4r70w and bw4406. The 4406 has what looks like a vss on the tailhousing. I was able to cross reference some parts and my 02 econo and the 01 f150 the rest of my parts came from, "could" share a vss, same part number. I've heard Ford is known for using the same part and listing them as several different numbers. I also found a supplier online that sells a speedo gear that supposed. Fit the 1356 and 4406. This leads me to believe I can use the 4406 as easily as a 1356 and have no speedometer issue. Can anyone confirm or give any input experience opinion or otherwise? If this will work out as I hope it will sure help me make up some time before rifle season.
