Hey guys I used to be really active on here a couple years ago. Lately not so much, but now my 7.3 is acting up. It’s a random die and no start. When it dies my fuel filter light comes on but the fuel bowl is always full. Local shop changed my cps and told me “if it happens again don’t bring it back cuz im not a diesel guy.” Correct me if I’m wrong but the local shop pulled a code for my cps which means the cps is good since he was able to pull a code. Leading me to think it’s my IDM. 175K if that helps out at all.
What brand CPS was installed? If its anything but OEM thrpw it out and get a FOMOCO or International CPS. Could also be the heater bowl shorting out but you would also have a blown #22 fuse? If I'm not mistaken. Have you drained the heater bowl as well?

Napa CPS. I’ve used them before, this isn’t a cps problem from my two cents. It either runs or it doesn’t, no difference between new cps and old cps. Usually a bad cps will run rough for a while and eventually stall. This is a run fine, water in fuel light comes on, truck dies out of nowhere situation. Fuse #22 is good and yes fuel bowl has been drained. Let it sit for a day and it fires right back up and runs fine.
If it cranks longer then 10 seconds it’ll set a code for the CPS.
Check fuse #22. Bad? disconnect fuel filter warmer and replace fuse. Good? Move on.
does it do it on both tanks ? Yes ? Change filter and check for any clogged lines. No? Take the fuel cap off the tank it does on and test drive. If that fixed it replace cap. If the cap didn’t help time to drop that tank.
