I think(hope it is that simple) my truck has suffered from the dreaded Cps Failure. I was merging into the interstate and punched it a little bit and the truck just fell on its face. I pulled over to the shoulder put it in park and the truck was still running but shuddering pretty badly like it was missing, so I cut it off. All the gauges had normal readings and everything under the hood checked out so I fired it back up and it was still shaking and running pretty rough so I tried to just limp down the shoulder until I could get off the next exit, but the truck died before I made it to the exit. So after all the stuff I have read on here I am hoping that it is just the 25$ fix of the new CPS that I have unfortunately not purchased yet. So where is the best place to get the $25 black or gray cps? I guess I'll be ordering two.
amiller, so you are saying to check to see if the fuel filter is full of fuel and if it is not then I could have a bad fuel pump? Thanks for the help
If it it died because of the CPS, the SES light should light and reading the codes it should show P0340/344 = CPS circuit. If you have no reader, mine did not show any RPM's while cranking, so that can show it too?
Just had this problem last week, except my truck died "while sleeping". It just never started again after parking. Codes showed exactly the problem and it took 5-10min to change the sensor. After that no problem, and new CPS is in order. I had the spare because guys here are having this problem almost daily, so I thought it will happen to me too one day.
I would like to tell of a experience that I had with my 2001 7.3L. Exactly what tamte65 stated. I changed the csp ,still had the problem as he explaained. I found that the single brass looking both that goes through the wiring harness at the driverside firewall and into the GEM [computer] had became loose over time. Mine is a 2001 model. As we all know tempature changes tends to loosen & tignted all types of materials , this along with time [2001 model] the connector was loosing contact with the on-board computer. I compltly removed the plug from the GEM ,cleaned contacts & connector and reinstalled the plug and firmly [but no tight] installed bolt into GEM. Prior to me finding this loose connector I had experienced numerous ghost in my truck bumper to bumper. Functions like window up speed,[SES] Service engine soon, truck quits running while on highway ,ect. Now all of the on-board systems seems to be working correctly. Also there are numerous connectors on this engine that uses this type of bolt through connector design. I also preformed the same actions on these other connectors. The most important thing about this that I can say is after cleaning the contacts & connectors of these harnesses is
#1 When reinstalling the connectors into the plugs---->MAKE sure that the plug is seated firmly into the socket your working on.
#2 Do not overtightnen these "keeper bolts". If you want to call them that.
This prodedure cleared up numerous problem areas on my F-250.
I hope this may help others and thanks fellows for providing a forum & system such as this. I am proud to be a part of this site.
