You need to go to ford tech makuloco on youtube and watch engine timing chain kit replacement parts 1 thru 4 then make a decision, DONT use aftermarket parts, USE ONLY FORD OEM PARTS
Had the timing job done about 8K miles ago. The billet chain guides and tensioners were a $600 upgrade to the $900 OEM timing kit I bought off Amazon, but the retired ford tech that did my timing job said it was a noticable upgrade. He's done a countless number of these jobs and said the limited number of times he's used the billet guides and tensioners has made a noticable difference. He said used in conjunction with "solid" OEM phasers, along with a high volume melling pump, is the single best thing you can do to one of these 3V Ford's as far as longevity goes. He said unlike the nylon/plastic stuff you get from ford, the billet stuff doesn't need any adjustments or rigging, no forcing or nothing. He said they lined right up, fit perfectly, and the first time he starts them up... No rough idle, no white smoke, no nothing. He told me to run a couple cycles of Auto RX before I did the job to clean out all the crap because I changed the vct solenoids along with everything else.
My truck has 155K miles, and there's no rattle, no knocking, no nothing. I also replaced the lash adjusters and followers like F150 stated. I set forth to eliminate all possible issues using all the knowledge I've pirated from this site. Along with using torque pro to monitor real time info I've never felt more in charge of my vehicles health. I have an 11yo son and I live in rural Alabama, I essentially rebuilt my son's truck for him to go the distance. Time will tell, but if it falls out I'll certainly come here to figure it out. Good luck with your rebuild

Hope this helps.
Do these "solid phasers" come in kit from Amazon recommended by Ford TeckMakUloco? I already ordered the Mellings steel guide tensioners from Mellings for $102 total so not going with MMR on tensioners. Ordered the guides from MMR this morning.
Looking damn good! Thanks for quick reply. I'm currently waiting on $3,000 worth of parts so diagnosing, researching and fixing problems and installing parts as they come in. I kept oil pan off because F150Torqued mentioned using air hose to blow out canals that lash adjusters sit in so I wasn't sure if a lot of gunk would end up in pan and then recirculated. Got a trash bag swaddled around crankshaft.
One last question then I'll be gone. Do You get on this site on a computer? I used to be able to access full site which was much easier to analyze in it's entirety but now full site on phone is like the phone mode setup? I didn't buy a Note 8 to have a RazRs' capabilities so was wondering if the site has been reformatted..
It would seem you've got good ingredients, please keep us posted on your progress. And you know we all love pics! What viscosity oil do you plan on going with once the job is done?
Go
Going with Ford Makulocos advice on 5W-30. We're pretty hot down here so I've heard I can run 10W-30 but with 280,000 miles I don't want to risk anything I don't have too. This is my first synthetic ever run. Engine a bit dirty inside but I think I'll change a few times at 1,000 miles to see if I can flush. I was wondering if I seafoam with new svts will it potentially free gunk from engine and clog them but don't think I can budget time and hassle to reinstall old runs to run seafoam in oil the take off valve covers to put new ones but it's close on my decision, ain't too hard really
