I need to find one of the dealerships you all are getting them replaced at, I'd happily take any of these bad pealing ones, its going to be the only way I'll ever afford stock led headlights.
That's funny, because some sort of chemical is also Fords way of putting blame on the owner. It's funny you say wax too, in my case that is something that Ford used as a possible cause haha. What you are seeing in these pictures, and those found in other forums, is a premature failure of the clear coat. Or whatever UV coating is on them. I have another truck that is almost 20 years old with plastic housings, there is no peeling. Just discoloration. Hopefully your headlights don't start peeling early so you won't have to whine about it.
What I don't understand is, they have seen this happen before on various years and models. The same time in use, same exact concern, and have approved many of them. So is it just a matter of catching the wrong person on the wrong day....
geez, if they are blaming wax for this that’s just….outlandish is the best I can say. My 16 year old crown Victoria has a little bit of yellowing on the top of the headlights and corner lamps but zero peeling

I knew it was one of those things that could be blamed on the customer, but still being under the 3yr/36 warranty, and reading how others did receive warranty approval fairly easily for the exact same concern, had me optimistic that they would in my case too. I wish I knew who I could contact to press the issue a bit more. Obviously this peeling issue is not a one off issue, it is something they should be familiar with and see that it does get approved in many cases.
If this is how they are while still under the original bumper to bumper warranty, I'm not looking forward to how things will go if or when I might need to use my extended warranty.
After approximately 3 months of waiting on a decision from Ford, they denied replacement of the LED headlight on my '19. Mine(1) looked very much like the others in this thread. Top corner, started out small, about dime size when I first noticed, now about a 2" area. The truck is still under the bumper to bumper warranty, and reading through this thread, and a thread on a Tremor forum, gave me hope that Ford would replace it without too much trouble. No such luck.
Like the OP, there was some back and forth with pictures, then more pictures. I was dealing directly with the service manager who sounded like he was on my side with it. It's pretty disappointing actually. I'm not aware of any avenues that I can take to push back either. I am considering talking with one other dealer in the area to see if they have seen this issue, and been able to successfully obtain warranty approval. Not really sure what else can be done.
Just wanted to update this.... I tried calling Ford customer relations to see if there was anything I could do to appeal or somehow get them to reconsider the denial. That was a waste of time. They said there is no warranty approval department I could speak with, and gave me the same ole nonsense about each dealership being independently owned blah bah blah.....ignoring the fact that it was up to Ford to approve, not the dealership.
I had planned to try the one other dealer in my area anyway, I did, and to my surprise it was a completely different experience. In less than 24 hrs they had an approval from Ford. I'm still not sure why one dealer took months to get a denial, and the other less than a day to get it approval, but if anyone else is in a similar situation with a warranty issue, it might be worth going to another dealership.
My headlights also peeled, various spots on both sides. My understanding is that its some sort of coating they use to help them from turning yellow in the sun like they all do eventually. I took it in to the local dealer (not the dealer I purchased from) and they took pictures and sent the info to Ford. Ford replaced them both under warranty, but I am still under the 3/36. Not sure why they would OK one and deny another, makes no sense. It must be something the way the dealer is putting the claim in? I know when I first came by and they took pictures they gave me a printout with the issue described and they had improperly said that the inside of the headlights were peeling, I had to call them back the next day and have them update it to the outside of the headlights. I guess it depends on how hard you want to fight, but I would call Ford back directly and take that route if the dealer says they are not going to be able to help, or maybe try another dealer.
My March 2020 replacement headlights are starting to do the same thing along the top corner. They must just last 2-3 years in certain conditions before deteriorating. Hopefully there are, or will be some decent aftermarket replacements available. I have had good luck with the Depo brand in the past.
ETA: It looks like Action Crash offers the halogen and LED units for about $250 / $1,000 respectively, and they have reconditioned OEM halogen for $300, but also looks like new OEM on ebay for only about $180? (each)
I also noticed that the rubber piece on the wiper cowl is starting to let loose.

Pretty disappointing that it happened again so soon. It's nice to see some OE looking aftermarket replacements, I wasn't aware that any were available. Interesting to know how the quality compares. The pricing is still too close to the OEM replacements. I can find OEM for pretty dang close to the same price as the Action Crash brand.(For my 2019 w/LED)

So they were replaced in March of 2020 or the truck is from March of 2020? Hoping that since mine were a bit newer that maybe they have figured it out?
