I don’t know if this is the right place or not. I am doing a body swap. Putting a 79 shortbed on a 2003 3/4 ton 6.0 Powerstroke frame. My question is would it be better to buy a stand alone wiring harness for 1k dollars? Or would I be better off cutting mine apart? Also where would I begin to start cutting mine down? I do not want to swap the new dash or steering column into the old truck. I want the old cab to stay the way it is.
You will need the PCM and cluster. The cluster has a controlling computer in you will need
The PCM has the TCM (transmission controller) as part of it.
There is a guy here that did a 6.0L powertrain and running gear into an older body. F100???
I don't recall for sure. Ask in the What did you do to your 6.oL thread and likely someone will
have the link. I think he used the 6.0L harness and computers.
Well that was too easy. PM F100trauma or ask in one of his early threads and I bet he might be willing to give some onfo on the steps he took to reach a running truck.
Sorry for the late reply I was having problems logging back in. I’ve read the build thread on that truck and it’s awesome. But he put the new dash in the old truck and steering column. He swapped firewalls and the whole deal. I don’t want to do that. I want the old dash to stay in the truck. I don’t want new cluster or anything. I found a stand alone wire harness I’ll see if I can post the link
You will also need a trans controller and you will have to find someway to get a speedo output.
The 5R110W does not have one. It takes it's speed from the hall-effect sensor in the rear axle.
To this you will need to add some temp sensors or some sort of display for that like the SGII.
So much of the data is sent over the network in the truck and is accessible at the OBD2 port.
With the Livewire you get what the PCM sees for the Sped sensor data is showing the PCM.
The question would be will the PCM put up with having something else read the VSS signal data
or not. I know that my stereo pulls data from the VSS signal. But does that come from the cluster
or the PCM. I think likely the PCM.
I went and had a quick look at there install manual and the video on the same page.
Look on Ebay for the Ford Service manual on DVD for your year powertrain and that
way you will have all the wiring diagrams for as it should be and you also get the interconnects
between each system. This one is the type of manual I use for all my stuff. Look for this type of text and color on Ebay.
There are a bunch of made copies that don't work as they should. The date things is easy to work with a program
called "Run As Date" and it's a free program. Very handy for this. The one thing I am not sure of on this item for auction
is is if it covers the 6.0L or not. But for that price I think I might get it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1997-2003-F...oAAOSwqLlcSfKn
