Hey I am looking for a new wiring harness for the 48 that i am restoring. It has the 6 cylinder and 4 speed unsyncroed tranny. It has been converted to 12 volt at some time but has the orginial starter. I don't mind a 6 volt or 12 volt harness. Some places to look would be great thanks.
I moved your thread on over to the '48-'60 Forum. Those guys there are sure to know where to find exactly what you want.
Oh, and welcome to FTE, hope you enjoy your stay here
There are alot of choices in aftermarket harnesses. On my 49 I went with the EZ Wiring 21 circuit harness. I was able to buy it brand new on ebay for $150. Here's some links to get you started;
I just ordered a 21 circuit wiring harnass from the classic truck magazine $145.00. I will be starting that as soon as it arrives. They are color coded and labeled as well. Easy just the way I need it!

That would be the EZ Wire one, the same one I'm using.
Welcome aboard! I'm also using the EZ wiring harness. Although, I didn't find it very easy at the time, but I think it would be easier now. It hasn't let me down though. Good luck.
If you are doing a restoration rather than upgrading to more electrical and electronic accessories, a fewer circuit system may be enough for you. Unfortunately it won't save you much money over the 21 circuit systems, but it may make you feel better about having a lot of leftover wire, and may give comfort to an overwelmed wiringphobic builder.
I see in an ad that Its-a-snap wire and cable is offering a 6 circuit harness for 125.00 and a 12 circuit for 127.00.
I bought a wiring harness from Dennis Carpenter a few years ago. The sales guy had to piece it together for me. He said they don't sell it as a kit. I should have took that to mean more $$$. My harness is more of an original style. My truck has a a 51 Merc flathead, it cannot be judged at a Early ford show when it's done, God knows when. I think if your going to add anything like a cd player or ac/heat unit, I would go with one of the other harnesses. I may save this harness for my panel truck and get another one from Painless or one of the other companies. Don't tell my wife...
Just completed install on the 21 wire EZ kit in all black. All the wires come labeled and very clean harness. Gutted all the old stuff and it took about 20hrs to do. From front to tail. Purchased it from Mid-Fifty, also installed Painless bump start on the left side, key on the right. Installed a new 5 gauge cluster with Auto Meter kit 1400 designer black w/red needles. Hooked up the new speedo cable last night so about to give it a test, hope it works. All electrical tests out fine except wipers. Cant get wipers to work, any ideas?
If you have power to the wiper switch (nice way to say to check the fuse), you might want to double check that you wired up the switch correctly. If I recall, those connections are kind of in a circle, and it's easy to mix em up.

Thanks
DUH!!........thats because the wipers are vacuum.....
Fuse is all good, I know its in the wiring, just cant figure this one out. Like you said its a circle of wires. I think its 1 in then 3 to the wiper motor, luckily we dont se much rain in the OC
Do you have a test light or a meter? Check and make sure that the motor and the switch both have a decent ground. Then I would verify that you have power at the switch, both going in and coming back out to the motor. Then check it at the motor to see if its getting there. If you have power at the motor and a decent ground at the motor and still nothing, then the motor is bad.
