Identifying alternator connections

I recently noticed my 73 was not charging and traced the issue to the alternator being wired only to the ground. When I pulled to alternator to get a better look at the connection there were more than I was expecting. Could y'all possibly shed some light on what I'm looking at here and how to proceed?

This is the diagram I'm working from. I'm not sure which connection is going to the field, stator, and battery on the alternator. And I'm not sure which one I need to ground the alternator from

The PO had wired the red connection and the silver one next to it to the ground terminal of the battery

There is an existing orange field wire coming from the voltage regulator that it appears the previous owner simply cut off at the alternator end. There was a red wire connected to the red terminal that went to ground. I don't see a white/black wire in that area.

The red terminal is "Battery"
Black is "Stator"
White is "Field"
The bare terminal at the 3 O'clock position to the field terminal is the ground.

In the diagram I've been referencing, it shows a connection from the stator on the alternator to the stator on the voltage regulator. But it also shows it tapped off to the ignition switch and the choke. Is this just to keep the choke energized so it has power when you crank?

The way it's currently wired is from the out of the starter solenoid to the ignition coil then to the choke.

If I leave the solenoid/coil/choke wiring the way it is should I still tap off from the stator to the ignition switch/choke or just run from the stator on the alternator to the stator terminal on the regulator?
