alternator nightmares. help?
Engine was completely rebuilt in febuary, BUT, do to a clumsy mistake on the part of a helper, the battery, alternator and voltage regulator were replaced.
I thiunk this careless mistake may have cause a part or two to disapear.
This particular alternator has three connector on the back, One for the battery, one for the stator, and one for the field coil.
Unfortunately, I only have two wires that actually connect to the alternator, one for the battery lead, and an orange wire, that is either for the feild, or the stator...
I need to know if I actually need a third wire, and where it's suposed to be connected, at both ends...
if someone has an electrical diagram that would actually make sense, that'd be great. both My hayne's and chiltons diagrams do NOT make sense, with the setup I have...
Help?
alternator has three terminals, marked F, B+ and S.
skinny little orange wire goes onto the F terminal.
Heavy black/red wire goes to the B+ terminal.
the S terminal is indeed used only if you have a carburator with the electric choke.
if you are having trouble identifying the wires, disconnect your battery, and pop the voltage regulator off or the fender wall. it's terminals should be marked similarly to the alternator.
