I have a 94 F-150 that has been converted to a 460. The alternator is a brand new 100 amp (the same as out of a 91' F-350) and a new regulator was purchased. I had to hard wire this equiptment due to not having the same wiring and plugs. For some reason with the regulator hooked up I dont get any power out of the alternator, without the regulator the alternator will push a dangerous 18 volts. Ok this is how it is hooked up:
The alternator has a ground wire and a battery wire wich is a no brainer. then there is a plug with 2 wires (stator and field wire) the regulator has 4 wires (stator and field from the alternator and an "A" terminal wich goes to the battery and an "I" terminal wich goes to the charge indicator lamp) I dont have the charge indicator lamp hooked up right now so the "I" terminal is empty. I cant see how that lamp makes anything not work. SOME ONE PLEASE HELP!!!! Thank you, Matt
If you don't want to use the "I" terminal, then hook it up like this. The choke wiring is optional. So if you don't have a electric choke, you shouldn't have anything hooked to the stator terminal on the alternator.
