Alternator hook up?

im doing a 351w conversion into a cj7 jeep. It has come time to do the wiring so i dont get stranded with a dead battery on a test drive. Its so hard to comprehend those stupid wiring diagrams and i'm confused on how to hook up my alternator. There are two wires that come out of the alternator. I understand the big wire goes to the starter and connects the same place the positive wire would connect. The other wire somehow goes to the ignition it seems. Where does the voltage regulator fit in. I have looked at my old jeep wiring harness and i cant seem to find a voltage regulator. I would think that this would need a voltage regulator of some kind and if so where does it get connected and where does that smaller wire that comes off the alternator actually go. Thanks for the help, im no so sharp in this field.

Get a ford reg to match your ford alt, and this will work.

If you have an electric assist choke on the carb, it goes there. It's optional, you don't have to hook it up.

Leave the "I" alone. If you want an idiot light in the dash, then you can use "I", but you will have to change some of the wiring around. I think I have a diagram for that somewhere. The first diagram though, is the simple one, and you can use an amp guage or a voltmeter with it to monitor the system if you want.
