Ok, so I just put a rebuilt 6.0 from Asheville engine in my truck. They recommended the Joe Gibbs Driven Diesel specific break-in oil. Supposed to be better due to Low detergent high ZDDP and so on. I am wondering if it would be of any benefit to use the Driven Diesel Synthetic 5-40 oil with the high ZDDP for maybe the first oil change or two after that.
Anyone use the Driven racing oil. Thoughts? I'm sure I'm over thinking this but this motor was a significant investment and I'd like to wring every last mile I can out of it.
Asheville recommends whatever regular oil I would use after the break in oil. I'm wondering if there would be any benefit in using the Driven 5W40 over T6 or Delo ect.
If they said that, I'd run Triax 5w40. My 06 is loving the stuff and just sent a lab report out. It was the first oil change withe this oil,I hoping the second is even better as 3 qts gets left in from the old oil. Best price I've found is on Amazon or eBay. Dieselfiltersonline for oil and fuel filters and it will help on the matinance costs
Thanks for the recommendation Per4mance. I went to Amazon to check out this oil as I hadn't heard of it. I found the below in regards to API certification. Should that be a red flag?
"The lubricants we make, with a few exceptions, are not API approved because we do not make cookie cutter formulations. API generally only approves "preset / generic" formulations which are a far cry from what is actually possible performance wise. In order to have API approve any modified formulations, it will cost the manufacturer literally millions of dollars. API is a company, like any other business, in it for the money. Our oils are very heavily modified especially with regards to friction reduction, oxidation and wear, far beyond standard API cookie cutter formulations, so we are not really interested in this type of "classification". 99% of the oils you buy out there with API license are the same exact 2 or 3 formulations, packaged under hundreds of different brands.
Truth be told, API standards are really not that great when compared to a lot of OEMs, such as VOLVO VDS-4, MAN 3575, VW 507, etc. All the tests you see on the spec sheet and product info sheet are validated by third party lab tests. We use at least 2 other labs to verify our own in house testing for each product.
With respect to OEM specs, each oil adpack comes with its own OEM credentials attached. These are based on performance criteria set by OEMs and known generally as “specs”. This guarantees OEM compliance. However, to get an OEM certification or approval, to have an OEM put your product on their website (formal approval), every oil manufacturer has to pay them separately for each spec and each product . This is essentially a substantial marketing fee. (performance is already approved through the adpack manufacturer). Needless to say, this significantly changes the cost of the finished oil and the cost to you, unless one is willing to use a pre-approved cookie cookie-cutter formulation, which we will not.
That being said, every product we have is backed by a 2 million USD warranty / guarantee against the specs and applications on the product data sheet. We also have 99% customer retention and an exceptional performance track record. Every user is free to test the oil as they see fit. I think our products will change your definition of “Quality”.

I too am running it. Funny he mentioned it because I literally an hour ago changed mine. I too took a sample for Blackstone. And I am on the second oil change.
At the time the best deal was 2 - 2.5 gallon jugs from Amazon.
I thought you were talking about the break in oil they recommended. But after break in, there's only one oil I would run. That is any full synthetic 5w40 of your choice really. I've run Rotella, Delo, Vavoline, and now TRiAX.
My friend has a fleet of Mack dump trucks,he recommended this oil to me and said his engine repairs dropped by 50 percent. That was good enough for me to try it as I didn't like the way my truck ran with the new Delo. If you can't wait for it to come in the mail I recommend the Vavoline blue weight of your choice.
Thumbs up for Triax, I just changed from Delo 5w40 to Triax 15w40 in my very low mile rebuild and I'm probably going to go with 5w40 Triax next time (because I live in the SF Bay Area) and run it all year. I left a 5 star review on the Triax 15w40 Amazon listing.

I heard that oil is so good you don’t even have to run it through your oil filter...
