I simply cannot afford to have my dealer do my oil changes any longer so I am going to man up and start doing them myself beginning tomorrow morning. My question is this, can I use the Chevron Delo 400 15-40 CJ-4 diesel oil I found at Costco for $59.00 a case (6-1gallon containers) or should I use a different oil? I am NOT going to use that Amway/Amsoil stuff so lets stay with MAJOR oil companies here. I cannot afford to do full synthetics either just regular old dino oil for my truck. Thanks in advance for your help here gentlemen!
BTW...I live in SoCal and it never gets below 60 degrees so I am fairly certain I do not need to use 5-40 oil right?
I use the Rotella T 15W-40 and get it at Sam's club. It seems that the last 6 gallon case that I purchased was just under $40. I also have a Wal-Mart close by but their price is always just a little higher than Sam's Club(probably comes off the same truck). Try to find an International truck dealer to get your fuel/water filters. The Mototcraft oilfilters sold at Wal-Mart are about as low as you can find with out buying a case. I think that after driving close to 300,000 total miles on my first 1995 F-350 thru my present 2006 F-250 that I have had some else change my oil only 1 or 2 times. Once was in Alaska and I did't have much of a choice. Be sure not to over fill. Also go to Wal-Mart and get the big plastic oil container to drain your oil into. I think they hold about 15 quarts. Save your empty oil containers to put the used oil into until you can dispose of your used oil. Check with your local Wal-Mart to see if they have a place where you can dispose of your used oil. One last thought, if you continue to change your oil, the next time you are at your Ford dealer, or if you go the IH dealer for filters get 2 or 3 copper washers that go on the oil drain plug. Good luck, the oil change is easy.

Put in 13 quarts with a filter, run it around the block, and then check your oil again on a level surface. Should about 1/2 to 1 more quart. Keep it in the middle of the marks. Good luck
Make sure you get a Racor filter. It can be identified by the felt ring on the bottom, not a rubber ring. If your're not sure, do a search on this site and you'll get more details. I think Motorcraft and Fram boxes contain the good ones but I always look in the box to be sure.
