Hey guys. While driving home tonight, my truck up and lost power and then eventually quit causing me to pull over. It will just sit and crank but will not fire. The longer i leave it sit to cool down it seems like it wants to start but wont. I noticed a small oil leak under the truck now back towards rear of motor. My battery volts were at the 13.8 mark as usual and ficm was the usual 47.5-48.5. ICP is over 800 cranking.. Thinking its HPO related. Also a check guage light and battery light came on when it died. No codes were thrown. Any suggestions on what could have happen and also anything i can do to trouble shoot the issue would be great. Thanks alot
I went over a few things on the truck. Checked fuel bowl to make sure its getting fuel with key on. Is there suppose be air bubbles in bowl once key is shut off? Also after about a half hr of sitting i finally got truck started(started rough) once it was running it was idling really rough and i tried driving it home and it didnt have any power and was blowing blueish smoke then died again after about 100yds. It threw a P0272 code. Cylinder #4 contribution/balance. Its been throwing this code in the past. Any thoughts?
Ive been getting the P0272 code since i bought the truck. Almost 2 months now. It will pretty much only throw the code when truck is hot. Usually after long drives. It will idle a little rough, and usually clear out when you raise rpms. It starts up cold and runs good. It wont always throw the code and idle rough tho when hot.
Could it be i possibly blew an oring on that injector and its causing and hpo leak? My icp pressure is well over a 1000 while cranking hot. Ipr is 84% while cranking as well.
I noticed latly the rpms are spuratic when idling.
Perform a bubble test and suspect inj.#4. That's where I'd start.
Will do. They other day when truck died. I pulled secondary fuel filter and turned key on to make sure it was pumping fuel. Once bowl filled up i shut key off and fuel then began to drain down and air bubbles came up from the fuel inlet hole on fuel bowl. Is this normal?
I recently replaced the primary filter cap with a dorman oe replacement( old one was stripped out). Is it possible this cap isnt sealing right and thats how im getting air bubbles from the inlet and the fuel is draining back down? I greased seal before installing as well. I still have original cap.
Do bubbles come up when you're cranking (from starter wire under the hood, with key off so it doesn't start)? The 84% IPR suggests HPO leak. Everything looks like you got a bad #4 injector. If you want to take it out, install new o-rings and crush washer, and see if that fixes it, you won't be out much money; or, just buy a new injector.

I tried the bubble test, but the fuel drains out of the bowl to quickly and i cant get a accurate test. Plus a bunch of bubbles come out of the fuel inlet hole so its hard to tell. I ordered 8 sets of injector oring kits threw alliant. As well as new stand pipes. Stand pipe feed hoses, hhc nipple cups and seals along with the tool and valve cover gaskets. Im hoping oring kit fixes the problem. After going over my truck i feel i have a fuel related issue as well with the fuel bowl draining and the bubbles in it. I just tore HFCM out today and cleaned all the junk out of it and put it back in hoping it would fix the problem but it did not. Fuel still drains away. Thinking the HFCM is bad? Parts should be here this week.
