OK, Gents,
I have a 2007 F-350 Diesel with 215,000 miles. When the temps are cold outside, my transmission bumps like it needs to warm up in the morning. Once it gets warm, it runs like a top. Great mileage and responsiveness and rides like a dream. About 30,000 miles ago, I had the transmission filter changed and all the transmission fluid replaced. All 15 quarts. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do?
I had the filter and fluid changed at 180,000. I switched to Royal Purple. I have had great success with Royal Purple.
What rating does the Royal Purple have? I looked up on of their ATFs and it has a MERCON V rating, not MERCON SP or MERCON LV, which is what your 5R110W transmission requires.
You need a fluid with either MERCON SP or MERCON LV ratings. Brand doesn't matter.
Any MERCON V fluid will destroy this transmission. I don't know if Royal Purple makes the right fluid or not. I didn't spend much time researching it. The one that I looked at was MERCON V, they may have others.
OK. Changed both filters and went back to the Ford Fluid. Still a little bumping on acceleration until it gets warmed up. Is there an additive I can add or something to help with the seals? Just hoping for some advise!
