Just used it for a fluid change ( I only drained the pan and replaced the filter) and the I saw the book says to only use Mercon. Is there going to be a problem? I have 90K miles and really dont want to take a chance on a tranny flush.
Fords never states anywhere that the filter EVER needs to be changed as part of normal maintenance. That leads me to believe that there just ain't a whole lot of stuff that can get in the tranny to ever make a dirty, clogged filter.
I mean, c'mon, the tranny is completely sealed. I've been told that if you ever really need change the filter then the entire tranny is toast anyway.
Flushing is fine so long as it isn't back flushing. With normal flushing the fluid goes through the normal path of operation....nothing out of the ordinary.
Monsta .. it's not really what gets into the tranny more so the internals wearing ( clutches, bands, ect... ) that produce the particles that get caught in the filters. Also dropping the pan for a peek also will give you a heads up on the condition of your internals where as just flushing it doesn't.
Flushing is fine in my opinion between a full service but it is important to change the filters also. Don't forget the one on the frame up by the radiator the little toilet paper looknig one.
