I recently had the C6 automatic transmission rebuilt on my 1966 f250. Now it only starts while in reverse. It started fine prior to the rebuild. I tried to adjust the NSS with a drill bit and the holes did line up when it was in neutral. Still only starts in reverse. Is this not how it is supposed to be adjusted?
Thank you

C6 swapped in, wasn't available in F100/350's until 1968 and then only with 360/390's thru 1972.
1965/67 F100/350 352's came with MX Cruise-O-Matic, trans pan has 14 bolt holes. C6 pan has 17.
1965/77 F100/350's have the NSS located towards the bottom of the steering column, but 1965/66's use a different NSS than 1967/77.
Look at the lower right in pic: 7A247 is the NSS .. 7B097 is the NSS selector lever, it's the same 1965/77.
This lever snaps onto the shift tube thru a hole in the steering column shroud, its knife blade end fits into the NSS
But when the knife blade end snaps off (common), the truck can be started in any gear.
If it starts in reverse will it also start in Drive ?
If not the wires on the switch may have been wired incorrectly .
It may be wired so the starter circuit is wired through the reverse light wiring instead of park-neutral wires .
Agree with seaves...likely the backup light terminal from the nss was plugged into the ignition harness, giving you continuity (and therefore, starting) when shifted into reverse. It should only start in park or neutral. Swap the two-terminal plugs at the transmission nss.
There are two wires coming from the NSS. One with a male end, one female. I temporarily wired them opposite of how they are plugged and engine still only starts while in reverse. Nothing else has been changed from prior to the transmission rebuild. The NSS is new from the rebuild. Could it be the wrong one for this application?
There should be two PAIRS of wires from the nss. One pair is continuity to the backup lights (reverse position) and one pair is continuity in the ignition circuit (park and neutral). The wires do not have polarity, so switching the individual wires has no effect. You have to use the pair that achieves continuity from the park/neutral position. Check again for another pair, or duplex plug....make sure they haven’t been cut. I don’t know why anyone would...or you may need a new nss.
I talked to the trans repair shop about my issue. He said they replaced the NSS with a new one as the wires broke off the old one during rebuild. He said maybe they got the wrong switch and to bring it in and they will check.
