I have an 82 f150 with a 302 with a c6 behind it and when I shift out of park it does the click thing that usually happens between the gears (If anyone can tell me what that's called That'd be great) but from reverse neutral to drive it slides through the gears (doesn't do the clicking thing) but 1 and 2 work just fine. Also my reverse doesn't engage to well and when it does its rough and slips (moves but not to good) it just started doing this recently out of nowhere no warning signs no slippage til the gears started not clicking.
Put blocks on either side of the tires so the truck won't roll, put the lever in neutral(just in case you can't get it out of park) and then get under the truck on the driver's side and take the linkage loose on the trans. See if you have the "clicking"(it's called the detent) when you move the lever on the trans with it disconnected from the steering column linkage.
If you do not have the clicking, something is wrong inside the trans. You can see this mechanism inside the trans if you drain the fluid and pull the pan. It's just a flat piece of spring steel with a roller that rides in some notches.
If it feels good down at the trans, then you need to investigate the steering column.
The problem is inside the tranny. I have another c6 from a previous project with overdrive I'm going to put in thank you for your time and help!
May want to check on that C6 with OD as one was never made!
I had to check the other thread to see if that was you, it was not, that asked almost the same question of C6 OD swap.
May want to look that up to see what he has.
