I"m trying to put my sons truck back to original configuration as far as the transmission linkage goes. It has a c4 but the po had put in a floor shifter and I'd like to go back to original column shifter. I have the rod that goes from the column but the transmission end has me wondering. The truck is a 1976 f100 with c4 automatic transmission and a 390 engine. Anybody have a picture or diagram of how the linkage is setup on the transmission?

Are you sure it's a C4 and not a C6? I don't believe Ford ever offered the C4 behind an FE (360/390) engine. It should be a C6.
The linkage itself is simple. Just the rod between the steering column arm and trans shift arm.
Here's the generic illustration from the Ford parts catalog.

Also, here are a couple of pics of a C4 and C6 transmissions.
The C6 has an intgral bellhousing, the C4 bolts on.
Actually I"m not sure it's a C4. I have a 1987 F250 Diesel that has a C6 and figured the older truck and a gas burner would have a C4. I"ll have to go out and look at my truck and see if it's the same as the transmission in the 1976 F100 truck of my sons. I had a 1977 F100 or 150, can't remember which and had the transmission rebuilt when it lost reverse. Thanks Mike, that's the illistration I was looking for!!

C6: The trans pan has 17 bolt holes, is kinda shaped like Utah / C4 = The trans pan has 11 bolt holes.
No FE engine ever came with a C4 (including Passenger Cars).
1968/76 F100/350's w/360/390's, 1973/79 F100/350's w/460's, 1977/79 F100/350's w/351M/400: The only A/T available was the C6.
1978: C6 was optional in F100/150 302's for the first time. Prior year 302's were only offered with C4's.
Ford confusion: 1965/78 F100/350: Ford used the same G Warranty Plate TRANS code for all A/T's. One had to know which trans was available with what engine.
Your right, it's a C6. Today I was trying to find the truck linkage that goes on the side of the transmission. I haven't been able to find the little angle anywhere around here. Anybody have one to sell?

Are you talking about the shift arm or the kickdown arm....or both?
You will probably also need the stud that connects the shift arm to the linkage.
Here is a picture of the arm and stud that you'll need, ignore the idler pulley.
