I have a 2019 XLT with remote start. I bought a third key for my truck. I followed the instructions in the manual on programing additional keys. I can not get the new key to program. I've probably tried 25 times with two different new keys and no luck. I went to the dealer in hopes a tech could plug his computer in and quickly program my new key. The service writer said sure. He said schedule an appointment and it will be $135 for one hour. When I complained it should be a 5 minute job, he claimed it took an hour to program a new key even though I have the two original keys. I was not happy to hear they wanted $135 for this and I stormed out. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to get this new key programmed? It pisses me off to no end that I buy a $60,000 truck from the dealer and they want $135 to program another key for me.
I think the consensus is that Ford changed this in the 2018’s and newer and you can no longer do it yourself, and never changed the manual. I went through the same process and had to pay about the same as you did. If I would have known this prior, I would not have purchased the third key.
I followed post 37 here to program my extra key on my 2019. I made sure I counted it out. It took me 6 tries but it did work.

That post is for the keyless (push button start) system. Which were you successful in programming? Hard key or push button type? (We're struggling with the hard key.)
