How to program a new key
#3
U have to have the ORGINAL two key to add up to 8.
If u have only one, U have to get the dealer to program the truck.

If you do have the two keys and you have your owners manual, it is detailed in the manual. When I bought my '99 last year, the dealership only had one key. They made me 5 keys and programmed them for me. The keys were about $15 each and the programming about $30 total. Glad I didn't pay for it!!!

When I got my used '01 from the dealer, it had one key that worked and another unprogrammed one in the glovebox. When I followed the manual's directions for setting up the second key, the first one wouldn't work. Reprogrammed the original key, and the second key was no good again. Gave up and went to the dealer, and it took about 10 minutes for them to get it right.
Sounds like getting the dealer to program the additional key is your best bet.

My salesman recommended the purchase of a 3 rd key up front. Before driving off the lot the first time, I dropped by the service department to pick up the extra key. It was only 14.95. Programming (per the owners manual), only took a couple of minutes. Not much of an investment for peace of mind.
