Hood Insulation

Has anybody added underhood insulation to their 2017+ Super Duty? It appears that the part number is HC3Z-16738-A, and the fastener appears to be -N808842-S...are these correct? How many fasteners are required? Is there anything else required to accomplish this installation? Thank you.

Mine came with insulation installed. If you don't get a response beforehand, I'll be glad to go count fasteners when I get home this evening.

Do we need these on our trucks because I don't think they gave me one. Is it to keep stray cats warm in the winter?

Not sure, I added one to my 2004 XLT, my fear is that the added heat from the underside, in addition to the hot sun MAY have an adverse effect on the paint...

My '17 had it but my '19 didn't. Trucks are ~95% identical. I swapped it over to the '19 before I got rid of the '17.

My 04 XLT had one and my 18 XLT has one. There has to be some rhyme or reason to it. I can’t believe it’s random. It’s like the keypad on the door. My 18 has one but it’s supposed to be part of the XLT Value Package and I don’t have that package.

I may be wrong but I believe they are not only to protect the hood paint from chipping prematurely but also as a safety feature. They are designed to smother an engine fire in the event of one. They fall from the hood and smother the engine bay.

That’s clever actually.

Never seen it successfully function like that in all of the aluminum super duties that burnt down completely to the ground with only a steel frame and front and rear suspensions left as evidence.

I've heard this also. Fire makes it fall onto the engine bay at least temporarily smothering the fire. Not sure why it's not treated like a seat belt and installed on every vehicle. I have it on my 93 Silverado as an OEM install.
