Now I'm really curious to see if I have it on my 19. I just noticed in the Lasco video, comparing the 2020 Lariat to the 19, the 2020 does not have the insulation, they didn't pop the hood on the 19.
The F250 Lariat Tremor(6.7l) that TFL has also does not have the hood insulation, neither do either of their XLT 7.3l trucks. I wonder if they've completely deleted them from 2020, and hit or miss on the 19s.
My 2018 platinum has it. I wonder if it is part of some cold weather group package or something?
I dont think so, my truck was an in stock truck from a dealer here in CA, no block heater or any other cold climate stuff, but it has the under hood insulation.
Is there any plausible reason to NOT have the under hood insulation?
I noticed my 2020 6.7 Platinum does not have the hood insulation. I asked my dealer about it and he was under the impression it had something to do with the new aluminum upper intake on the diesel.
FYI, you can get the fasteners at AutoZone or Oreillys for a fraction of the dealers cost.
And those clips may likely be a fraction of the OEM quality.
Just like split corrugated wire protection loom at Auto Zone and O'Reilly's. It looks the same as the coverings that wrap OEM wire harnesses, but it isn't.
The wire loom covers sold at consumer wax and oil stores are made out of less costly PVC, and begin to severely soften to the point of deformity at 150°F and melts to separation at 165°F.
The OEM wire loom covers, on the other hand, are made of Nylon, can be identified by their green stripe as being burn resistant and thermally stable up to 257°F, which is more appropriate for a crowded engine compartment full of hot components.
I would assume that the same is true of hood insulation clips. Consumers are attracted by low price, not by material science. One may pay more at the dealer, including the dealer's treble markup, but if the parts come in a blue bag having the Ford logo, then one has paid for the part to have been validated by the engineering and legal liability departments at Ford to be made of the appropriate materials for the purpose and fitment of use.
My 2019 6.7 Platinum has the insulation on the hood and this was ordered for Ontario, Canada in case some are wondering if it is geographic related. Maybe it is related to the trim level, such as XL vs Lariat? Maybe it keeps the heat in, so when you shut if off in the colder climates, the engine keeps warmer haha. Who knows, it sure is strange that some have it, while others do not.
