Keyless entry/door lock system for remote start install
OK gurus, hoping for some insight here. I purchased a remote start system for my 05 F250 with keyless entry. I plan to install this weekend and found one gotcha that I'm hoping to solve before I attempt it. In the wiring diagram for the remote start system(it will also do the door locks and replace my factory remote), you wire a relay into the system for the remote start to work with the factory keyless entry. There are two options listed in the install, a Negative doorlock system, and a Reversal Rest at Ground doorlock system. Which does my truck have? I wire the module differently depending on what I have. I'm thinking it is the Negative, but unsure how to find out and figured there's enough of these trucks out there I'm surely no the only person to install one of these rather than taking it to a pro shop.
It's a negative trigger if you have factory keyless entry. Here is an installation pictorial. You might have to sign up with the website to view it. The 2002-2004 F-250 wiring is the same. https://www.the12volt.com/installbay...asp?tid=133810
If he wires it directly to the locks themselves, will have have to use the reversal relay type wiring? I am not sure of the nomenclature they are using, but do know Ford used to use little motors for their locks. So you had to power them 12v to lock and 12v to unlock with reverse polarity, just like a power window up and down.
Here is the wiring diagram showing which wire to give the negative pulse to. No relays are need, just give these wires a negative pulse to lock/unlock the vehicle and arm/disarm the security system.
Thanks much for the info! I was thinking that but would rather ask than hook it up wrong! You mention no relay is needed. In reading the documentation on the remote start, there's another question that comes to mind. It came with this DLRM - Door Lock Relay Module and states that it is a door lock relay module , that will convert the low current (-) negative door lock outputs from the keyless entry unit, to (-) Negative ground or (-/+) reversing polarity, allowing door lock control for vehicles with these types of systems. So we've determined the system I have, but reading that is making me think I don't actually need that relay module, which would make sense with the wiring chart they provided also. Would you agree? I'll attach the document I got with the wiring chart and relay module. Pages 2, 3, and 4 are probably the only relavent ones to the question.
As long as the Green and Blue wires on the remote start unit give a negative pulse you do not need the module. As long as those wires get spliced directly to the VSM lock/unlock switch wires. The purpose of the door lock module is if you were to run directly to the lock actuators in the doors. In such a case the outputs of the remote start unit are not powerful enough to drive the lock actuators directly, hence the need for the module.
For the starter wire I recommend installing an anti-grind relay so that you don't accidentally grind your starter when turning the key to On when the vehicle was remote started. That relay has saved me doing starter and flywheel damage many times.
