Remote locks
Remote locks
I have a 99 F-150 XLT (bought used), This truck has power door locks and I suspect it should have remote lock device for my keychain. I called my local ford dealer's service dept. and was told that it would cost $200-$300 just to find out if the truck was orginally equiped with remote lock, not to mention another $200-$300 for the key chain device and to reprogram the system.
This sounds a little steep to me.
Is there a a better way to go on this one?

purchase an aftermarket alram or just a keyless entry system, I think a Keyless Entry runs about 100$. Beats 2-3 to find out. Also if you do an alarm then you can upgrade to Remote Start, aded security, and keyless entry. I would reccomend going with a DEI or Clifford Alarm if you are gonna get one. Clifford does not make just a keyless entry unit, I think. Either way you go, you'll get better range than out of the factory and better warentty if you have a professional install it.(which I would reccomend if you do decide to do an alarm) You could probably do the Keyless entry install yourself, if you feel comfortable doing it. I added all the hardware for a keyless into my uncle's 02 ranger on thanksgiving morning last year. Toook me about 2 hrs but that was because he didn't have power locks to begin with. Well good luck and holler at me if I can help you out any.
Hi frog1 and welcome to the forum
You should be able to tell if it has remote keyless entry quite easily by yourself.
Cycle the ignition from off to run 8 times in 10 seconds. If the doors lock and then unlock you have it. After that it would be just a matter of getting a remote and programming it. To program it you do the same 8 turns in seconds and then press any button on the remote.

Thanx for the quick reply Big Blue, There again, I am not sure if this truck has an alarm. Just got this truck and don't know too much about it yet. It does has a red "thief" light on the dash that flashes when I lock the doors. I assume it has an alarm but at this point I don't know how to operate it.
Remote start would sure be nice on those cold winter mornings.

not neccessarily on that last post. alot of dealers just don't supply them, even though FORD usually sends 2 remotes with each new vehicle. As for the price ripoff....wish I cold get away with that. most remotes are only about 45 bucks and takes a few secs to program....unless it's like a Mark VII or some lincolns.
