I've just installed a remote start system with keyless entry. The remote start part works great. I cant get the keyless entry to work. I'm having trouble trying to figure out what type of lock system Ford uses and what color the lock and unlock wires are.
Has anyone out there ever installed one? If so:
What type of system is in the Ford. positive, negative or reverse polarity?
What colors are the lock and unlock wires and are they located in the passanger kick panel?
I have tried every recommended method of hooking this up including the bosch type relays and nothing works..
I have a 97 250 powerstroke with a 7.3.
By the way, the remote start feature is really cool, it hooks up to the wait to start light and waits for it to go out before starting the truck..
Thanks for the wiring diagram. These are the 2 wires I've been working with. About the only thing I can make happen is blowing fuses.
I'm just not sure what type of system is in the truck. Positive, negative or reverse polarity.
I guess I'll take it to the shop.
Try calling a local alarm installer, they maybe be able to help you.
Did you try putting a voltmeter on the wires? If they have +12 volts I would think grounding them should trigger the locks. I whimped out and had someone do the install for me. I think he charged me around $100, and came to my work.
Here's the scoop, I am a PL guru, NOT by choice! I had a broken wire in a door jam that I was not going to let beat me.
Buy a Haynes manual for $15 with a complete schematic, very helpful.
All you need to do is get +12V power to the blue wire with the black stripe. When you toggle the switch, it completes the circuit to ground. It is a 'positive' system I believe. Your problem is probably just initializing the relays. MAke sure you hear them actually click on. Just to double check things, you can hook some leads directly up the battery and manually make your windows go up and down to verify the correct terminals on the back of the switches.
The hard part is getting to the blue wire with the black stripe. It is very easy to get to the the pass side but I am not sure if that is the only one you need to bias. Drv side is a bear, probably easiest to just route a wire through the door jam and door the connection in the door??
If its a positive system, then I dont need relays according to the instructions. I simply hook one wire to the lock wire and one to the unlock wire. I have not tried the wire you mention. Will do this next.
If it is a cross polarity, then relays are required.
I have a viper, it's a starter + alarm. The only problem I had was the shock sensor went bad, and had it replaced under warrenty. The remote works from about 1000 feet away.
I've seen a couple of new systems where the remote is two way, and you get visual confirmation on the remote that engine is actually running.
Mine is by www.Designtech-intl.com. The only complaint I have is that their Tech support sucks. They basically expect you to be an expert already and have little patience if your not. I guess I was idiot number 1001. Come to think of it, I guess I wouldnt be asking for your help if they were any at all....
Ford sells one with their name on it, but it's not "plug and play". It still has to be wired the same as any other one and I was told that the range is not very good.
wow thats cheaper than Ford (go figure) at 250.00. The range is also better, Thanks for helping me make up my mind, designtech is the frontrunner. How does that work with diesels (glow plugs)?
Thanks
You run a wire to the glow plug light and program a couple of options from gas to diesel. I also set the crank time to extended for cold mornings. Once it is programed it waits for the glow plug light to go out before cranking.
