4x4 conversion question

Hi folks
my name Timur, i'm from Russia, Ekaterinburg.
many years i'm owner of 2002 F350 7.3 powerstroke 4x4

now i want to buy 2002 E250 5.4 and make 4x4 conversion.
so my question - i have used 4R100 4x4 from 7.3 powerstroke and NP273 in my garage.
can i just remove rear cover and output shaft from my 4r100 case and bolt it to transmission in E250 5.4 2002?

thanks for everyone.

No, you can not. The transmission on the 5.4 is a 4r75 (4r75w, 4r75e... depending on the year). On the latest chassis+cab they used a 5 speed transmission. Since the transmission is controlled by the ECU of the engine, you can not just swap transmission even if they bolt.
There is also the issue of the speed sensors on the transmission, some have them, some don't.

You may want to search on Expedition Portal Forum. Lots of info about this.

Are you sure that in e250 was 4r75?
I thought 4r75 is thansmission for f150/e150/expediton platform
I thought
In e250/350 4r100, at Wiki found same info.

I guess I was too quick at replying and it depends on the years. My 2000 E150 had the 4r70 (or 75) and my 2010 E350 has the 4r75e (this I know for sure as I had to rebuild it to convert to 4x4).
Wiring and ECU communication will still be an issue.

Will the 7.3 transmission bolt to a 5.4 (bellhousing bolt pattern)? Usually with the output shaft change you have to disassemble the transmission to change it. It may be easier to just find a 5.4 4x4 transmission as they are plentiful from the expeditions and f150/250. This could save you the wiring and ecu headache.

Off course no, 7.3 tranny will not fit to 5.4.
I asked about changing only rear cover if E250 equipped 4r100 this changing is Possible. Only rear cover. Without output shaft change. Next step - making spacer between transmission and transfer case. And bolt There np273.
So anyway gas econolines was only with 4r70/75, i'm already find cheap 4x4 rear adapter to 4r70 transmission and bolt There bw1356.
But life not so easy - its really Hard to find cargo econoline in a good shape in my country. Most of then rusty **** boxes))) so i'm keep searchin

I have limited to almost no helpful knowledge about 4x4 components and operation however I'll offer to help you find, secure and possibly ship from the USA any item you'd need in your conversion. Also I'll send a private message with a link to another site where 4x4 conversions are quite common.

Wishing you the best in your process Timurgen.

If the transmission in the 2002 E-250 is a 4R100 (I think both were available) then yes, you can do this.

The axle type shown in the attached photo here in the USA is called "semi floating". This image shows the "full floating" type:

full floating axle more durable then semi
i never tought that dana60 exists in 2 types axle.
all ford trucks F250-550/E250-350 i saw in Russia was full float.
so anyway i'm close to choose econoline, its not to much trucks here and most of them in very bad condition
