Hitch questions...

hi everyone,

My new 250 King Ranch 4x4 is in production, and I'm about to start ordering an accessory or two.

repeated questions I know...

1.) is the receiver 2.5"?

2.) what size Drop would you suggest? 4" or 6"?

I prefer the "look" of the 4", but the 6" is more versatile obviously.

I am probably answering my own question here, as I probably need to go measure my boat trailer height in relation to the height of the truck hitch. Duh!

Might get a travel trailer down the road also.... but might get a whole new system if and when.

Guess I was just wondering what what most of you folks use drop wise....

Thanks!

When I ordered a 2019 F350 I wanted to know what size receiver it came with. This is what I found out. F 250, all (except heavy duty tow package) get 2.5 receiver. F 350, all gas SRW and diesel SRW (excluding 176” wb crew cab and dually) get 2.5 receiver. I hope this helps you.

My boat trailer ball height is 21.5 inches when level. I did some measuring the other day and I am sure a 4 inch drop would work. But I ordered a 6 as we have a flat bed trailer we use for rock, dirt, and lumber. I should have the new ball mount in a couple of days and can tell you how much drop it will take to keep my boat level.

First off, you're probably going to end up with a different hitch anyways for the travel trailer. You'll be wanting to look at a proper Weight Distributing Hitch setup, if not for the Weight part (all depends on the weight of the trailer) at least for the corresponding Anti-sway it'll provide (whether built in or add-on).

Secondly, yeah, I think you'd answered your other question already. To know how much drop 'you' need, you need to measure the trailer you're going to tow with it. I have a 4" drop shank I carry in case I ever need to pull one of my father in law's utility trailers. But I never really measured for it, I just got the 4" because it was cheaper than the 6" and should be 'good enough' for that once every few years need to tow. Especially since his different trailers have different height couplers. In your case, since your towing more often and targeting a specific trailer, it makes more sense to measure for it.

Alternatively, you can look at an adjustable drop hitch, which will let you dial in your perfect height:

My 2018 Lariat came with the 2.5 inch receiver hitch. I use a 6 inch drop for my boat trailer.

Did your order the 5th wheel prep package??? Even if you don't think you need it now, you might need in the future! Plus, it's a good resale value item.

I got a 6” drop hitch from Bulletproof in accordance with their guide showing what size drop to order for my F250. Works well for everything I’ve pulled. You are correct on the 2.5” size as far as I know.

This is what I used also, with built in scale. I like the adjustability of it. To the OP I'd suggest that you get one with several stops on it, not a straight up 4 or 6 inch.

Yeah... it's a 2.5 receiver.

I ordered the WeighSafe 6" drop adjustable.
Ordered the pin kit with the keyed alike system.

I realize if I get a TT down the road I'll prob need a new system, but that's ok.

Got my WeatherTech mats delivered the other day. (Brand loyalty haha!)

hitch on the way...

will order my extra wide WeatherGuard toolbox in a day or two...

Then, just waiting on the truck. Site says ETA 2/16.
If that holds up (dicey I know) I'll be thrilled.
As of this morning, it's still "In Production".

I split the difference and got a 5" drop. It's worked well for me so far.

It lives in the toolbox with the 2-1/2 to 3" adapter and hitch pin most of the time.

I know the feeling. I am "in production" for days now, I have a delivery date of 2/19. Sales rep that has been there forever thinks closer to the 13th. In the meantime I have Weathertech with flares mud flaps that have been painted in code correct magnetic metallic. Truck is two tone silver and magnetic which is why I pretty much had to order it. Husky floor liners, tail gate dampener, beamtechs for lights and fogs, a bunch of things to bolt on when she gets here.
