Towing question

I have f350 6.0 diesel, cc, lb, stock. Just bought an 18 ft enclosed cargo trailer. In the manual it states that the hitch height is 21 inches. The rear of the truck is quite high. I would imagine that you need to keep the trailer level. How do I determine the right size hitch to lower the ball to the right height. It requires a 2" 5/16th ball.

After you have a hitch installed, you take some measurements to determine what ball mount "drop" is required:

Measure from the bottom of the square opening on your hitch to the ground;

Level the trailer and measure from the inside of the coupler to the ground;

The difference is what decides the ball mount you'll need.

adjustable drop ball

If your trailer is quite heavy....you may want to consider an adjustable drop ball hitch. The strongest units have a solid stainless sq. stock that slides in the receiver with a stainless steel pin. There are several holes to choose from which allow you to position the ball at the correct height to keep the trailer level when fully loaded. The only real way to determine the correct ball height is to place "tongue weight" on the rear of the truck and then take your measurements. This is pretty hard to accomplish, so the adjustable receiver hitch is pretty handy.

My recommendation, get one slightly higher than level, that way, when you are loaded and the rear of the truck sags, the trailer will be level...or get an adjustable one
