I have an early 99 f350 v10 4x4 with a 4" lift on 35's. This weekend I replaced the steering gear box, pitman arm, center link and track bar. Drained and flushed p/s with Valvoline Mercon Lv syn. ATF. I couldn't get my track bar to bolt up. It's about 1.5" too short ( I bought the truck lifted already, I'm pretty sure the mounts are stock) old track bar and new track bar are the exact same size. I read somewhere that I can have someone turn the wheel with the truck on the ground until track bar lines up. So we did that and was able to drive in the top bolt. My friend had no problem turning the wheel when lining up the track bar. Now after putting everything away to go on a test drive, I cant even get out of my driveway! Idk what to do.
the first thing I would question is the timeing of the parts.. when you put the pitman arm on the gear box, is it indexed or marked to go on a certain position, or can that be installed off center ?
It can only be installed in certain positions. But it's at a quarter at a time. I meant to post this in the super duty forum and dont know how to delete. Sorry
take the rod loose from the pitman arm... run the steering wheel all the way left, then all the way right... count the turns and then move it to the CENTER............ Point the tires straight forward.......... your pitman arm should line up with the rod.
