Towing a Super Duty
Towing a Super Duty
I am looking at buying a Super Duty to use as parts for my '01, an need to tow it home if I buy it. It will be about 180 miles of mostly level interstate of state highway. U-Hauls are a little on the light side, and it looks like most tow bars limit out at 5,000 pounds. Any suggestions?
There are plenty of towbars that will more than exceed your weight requirements. Demco, Roadmaster, Blue Ox, to name a few, all make bars big enough to pull an SD. The real need will be the "toad" brakes and your tow vehicle. You could probably find a complete setup used through one of the rv sites and then resell it once you're done. But I would agree that getting a trailer would be a better option.
I had my Jeep shipped from Mississippi to Colorado, $600 to my door, I couldn’t have flown out there and driven it back for that . Check out U ship...

You don't have a buddy with a "brodozer" and a car trailer than can haul it for you, for say fuel and beer?
It's not very far, maybe U-ship would be cheapest way to get it home.

A one day rental of a 12K trailer at my local rental place that rents skidsteers and "small " excavators is $50. If you pick it up first thing on Saturday morning and return it when they open on Monday, they count that as one day for the weekend. 3/4 ton or better tow vehicle mandatory.
I ended up having to work during the auction and missed out. A 2001 F250 Lariat SD with the same interior as mine. The body was rough, but it went for $1750, kicking myself. It ran and had heated seats, which mine doesn't. Checking into things, shipping it would likely have been the best solutions.
Thanks!
