The weeks long festivities has begun. Chinatown is overflowing with people. Without a doubt, this is the largest public festival in The City, since it's 2 weeks worth of events, with a parade. The only time of the year, outside of New Year's Eve & 4th of July, where there is a licensed public display of pyrotechnics.
Did you use Uship.com to have it transported? Just curious. I did that for awhile after I got my settlement money, but could never get enough jobs to make it profitable. Nice looking Benz btw.
Jim
I did use "u-ship" The customer service and scheduling integration is much better then 20 years ago but still the same deal with the transporters. This was actually only my second time using a broker to help get a shipper since I usually pick up myself and only bid within CA. My first experience was shipping a rx7 from Nebraska back in the year 2000 and they were 3 weeks late so I never used one again. This time I decided to try U-Ship and I do like their service, but the transporters are late. It is hard to make money if not choosing the right car. or missing something. I only inspect the cars I want to make into runners before bidding but everything else is good for parts. It's amazing how much some of the vehicles go for.
I believe the best way to make a living/profit doing this is selling out of state and in quantity. I know some guys who buy and sell 20-40 Subaru a month from the salvage auctions to fix and transport them to Colorado where they fetch a premium.

Hey 04badford,
What do ya grow? I just made a 20' x20' fire pile to set ablaze. I inherited the persimmon/cherry farm this year. No cattle but I have been interested in starting with a few beef cattle cows.

That's like the first or second "Chinatown" in the US if i'm not mistaken. SF is where I was born and raised but moved out of there 'bout 14 years ago.

I am pretty sure there is a Hmong town here somewhere. LOL.
I liked doing the Uship thing. I was never late, and always kept in contact with the buyer via email to let them know where I was. Just couldn't get any return trip jobs to make it work.

Jim,
They must have a Hmongtown there. lol
Hmong are Chinese also. Just a different kind of Chinese. China is a big country, with a lot of different subcultures.

If you ask a Fresno resident what Chinatown represents to them, most would describe it as skid row or the slum of West Fresno.
I live in The Big City. Very few, if any, Hmong. If there are any, they tend to blend right in, and pass as the other Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, et cetera......For one, I've never seen a Hmong restaurant. Secondly, nobody has ever said to me, "Hmong isn't a place. It's a people."
What I know of Hmong, I learned from the Clint Eastwood film Gran Torino. The girls are cute, and I wouldn't mind getting to know one.
For whatever reason, Hmong have settled in The Central Valley. Same way I couldn't understand the Cambodians who all live in Eureka. To me, it would have made more sense for them to settle in larger cities, with more diversity, and better opportunities for education and employment. I'm thinking along the lines of SF &NY, where there are a lot more immigrant communities, better access to social services, and a public transportation system so that you can get by without owning a car. Where they can shop at Asian markets for familiar grocery items, instead of having to grow their own bok choy, gai lan, and whatever they are always trying to sell at Farmers Markets to hipsters.
So I did the next best thing. I looked up wikipedia.
Apologies to anyone here who may be Hmong, and the Clint Eastwood portrayal of Hmong is inaccurate and/or offensive. I, as well as most of the viewing audience, realize that it's only a movie. And that not all Hmong boys are slow & go to jail, as summarized by the character's narrative in the film.
Now if 1 of you could open a restaurant. That food looked pretty good in the movie.
I have that DVD. And I agree, the girls are pretty, especially "Yum Yum" Only thing I don't like about that movie is Clint's character dies in the end. Still, a good movie though, and I would love to have that Gran Torino.
Everyone has a black mark on their record. Everybody loved Dirty Harry. And he was a virtuoso genius with those films with the monkey. Let's not forget that he is also an accomplished musician and song writer. After Bridges of Madison County, I was mad at him for an awfully long time. There were moments when I was in Carmel with the girlfriend, that I wanted to leave the cozy little bed & breakfast to go looking for him, and maybe slap him around a little. He was just lucky that the girlfriend's bedroom antics kept me tied down.....figuratively & literally!
