I have a 04 Excursion with a 6.0 PSD, 183K miles. I have been getting code 271, #7 injector low voltage. It has happened in the past but only when I towed heavy. This past trip, without a trailer, I received the code twice in as many days. The truck did not act up, no hesitation, no sputtering, just normal driving.
I would like like to go ahead and replace this injector, any suggestions about makes, manufacturers? I’m not wanting to increase the performance aspect just going back with stock.
Also im guessing #7 is drivers side, second from the back.
Odd numbers are the passenger side. #7 would be nearest the firewall. Best replacements come directly from Ford dealers. They can be found online for around $180, plus core.
Other rebuilders seem to have more issues with theirs.

OEM Motorcraft remans is your best route to go.
I think there are some made by Pure Power that are new, and they are actually a Siemens company that made the originals for the 6.0.......but they are more money

Ed has a line on new build injectors.
Also has there been a blue spring fuel pressure regulator up date done to that engine?
I have ave a pretty good selection of tools so I should be able to get the right combination of attachments to make it work. I have a small oil leak from that side, I’ve suspected the valve cover so this will be a chance to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. As long as there are no special “Ford only” tools needed for this I should be fine. I know there are plenty of YouTube videos which can lend a hand.
Ill be picking up a Motorcraft injector shortly and getting to work replacing the part. I’ll try to keep things posted on the progress/frustrations with the repair.
Just don't use any apex type bits. For some reason they end up going down a hole
when they fall out of what ever your using for a holder. Then they becaome a PITA
when trying to fish them back out of you can.
The one little set I added to my tool box was a full set of very short torx sockets.
Not sure right now but I think I got the set from a Lisle Tools dealer. The other option
is stop at Harbor Freight and pick up the short set they have. It's not like your going
to put a lot of torque on them. 1/4 and 3/8 are all you need for the oil rail and injector
hold down clamps along with a good torque wrench. The only other odd thing to have on
hand will be some brushed. Here is what they ones made for the look like,
Thise also have there tool part number. The injector cup is in the photo to give you an idea on the size.
An adjustable inspection mirror, small LED flashlight and angle tipped air nozzle are great for blowing out snd inspecting injector cups and hold down bolt holes. The cleaner the better.
I just use my phone to take a picture of the cup. Works nice when you can blow it up to see the details.
I did pick up one of those cheap flexible borescopes last month when I had to get a pic of the cylinder, it is kind of handy to have on hand for these types of repairs
I'd just add that no 7 is the injector that's most likely to go out first when your fuel pump starts going bad (furthest from the pump). You might want to check your fuel pressure before you have to replace it a second time (speaking from experience).
