Unhappy Oh God, another problem

Got a trans cooler line leak fixed, topped off fluid to correct level, then went thru the gears, they worked fine. Put in park, to double check fluid then went to run thru gears again. This time I had nothing, no forward gears or reverse. Shift linkage is correctly adjusted. Only thing about this replacement trans, is that the kickdown lever would just spin around freely, not sure if that would be causing my problem

You speak of a replacement transmission. What's the back story on this?

Was a working transmission my friend (who let me have the truck) had stored in his garage

It would seem obvious that it is no longer a working transmission. All too often, that transmission that worked fine when pulled X amount of years ago does not work when reinstalled. Guessing what may be the cause is risky at best.

How about the whole story, both on the replacement transmission as well as what was wrong with the one originally in your truck? Details such as engine type, transmission type, mileage, and any other pertinant detail will help.

300 , C4. Shows 94K on truck. The original C4 trans had second burnt out. Replacement one was working when pulled 8 years ago

I got to thinking while I was on the throne, I wonder if the main pressure valve in the lower valve body is sticking or stuck, since it is engaging one minute and not the next

My friend who gave me the truck, is going to get me another transmission so I don't have to mess with this one

does rpm go up and down when you go from in gear (drive or reverse) to neutral or park? what happens in gear with you throttling up and down a lot, doesn't try to move at all when revved? Sounds just low on fluid, did you check while fluid is super hot? That's when you should, not cold, not warm, full up operating temp.

Fluid was hot, would go in gear once, moved it a couple feet each way, then after re checking level, it had nothing.RPM did not change. Fluid level was correct
