My 66 just had a trans fluid flush/filter replacement and new modulator valve installed, and now no forward gears engage. It has a 352 with COM and has around 60,xxx original miles. I was driving the truck regularly until I flushed the fluid. I drove down the road to a friend's house immediately after the flush and parked it for a few hours. When I tried to leave no gears were engaging, including reverse. The trans fluid level is perfect and i checked the modulator valve vacuum line for leaks but it was fine. By the time I finished checking that the trans was working fine again and I drove it home. Now the problem has returned except that reverse works fine. When I put it in 2 D or L it sounds like it has engaged but doesn't move forward. I have tried everything I can thing of to resolve the issue, but haven't gotten anywhere. Maybe somebody who has tinkered on the old COMs for a while can offer some suggestions? Thanks
Google flushing a COM or C6 etc,.... I recall reading this is a common no no. But cant recall the details. IMO a filter and mod change, decide if new oil is in order based on color, residue, smell etc.. No flush.... just swap what needs swapping. Flush just like in an engine sends junk moving until it is hung up somewhere. Frequent lubricant changes are way safer to clean out an aged system.
Thank you for the reply! I should have been more thorough in my description. By flushing the fluid I meant that I used SeaFoam Trans tune and the drained/refilled it. I have searched online as thoroughly as I can for a solution or similar problem but have found nothing. No trans shops in my area even work on the COMs anymore and can't tell me what it might be. I am close to making the upgrade to a c6 but would really like to keep the COM. The motor and transmission came out of my first 66 that I got when I was 13, and I would like to keep them both. Plus it would require a new driveshaft, and I just had this slip shaft made for my truck about 200 miles ago.
