That phone button was just a mute button back then. That was back before hands free laws. That button goes back to the early 2000's and is not bluetooth.

Copy that. Cheers to all that offered advice & help.
I knew this unit would not pair --its old tech -just didn't want to deliver all bad news
The newer head unit will be the ticket . Its a lot cheaper than a new truck that will have an old head unit in a couple of years itself . We forget there was no cell phones or internet not that many years ago . It would have been nice to have a cell phone when in the military in the 60's ,Back then you couldn't afford to call home very often with old wired long distance charges but it did make us self reliant but very isolated.

A new head unit is definitely on my bucket list. I need hands free, and I don't feel like yanking that sucker out of the dash again to fix the CD player. I found a video on YT that showed how to fix the rubber roller that's probably the reason why the player is not loading or ejecting a CD. Although that video targets the CD player from a Mazda, I think they all pretty much work the same.
