No high beams, MP3 cd stuck in player, cannot pair phone
I recently purchased a 2006 F150 STX S, and other than a few minor issues, I love my truck... traded in a 1992 Chev Sliverado with over 330K miles on it.
The main issue, obviously, is the lack of high beams, low beams are okay, although I noticed that one of the amber lights is burned out. Pushing the turn signal indicator forward should turn on the high beams and I should get some indicator light on the instrument panel... nada. When I pull the turn signal indicator towards me, the high beams should flash-to-pass, again... I get nothing.
I put an MP3 CD in the player and I noticed that I had to stuff it into the player, vs. the player grabbing it and playing. I cannot eject it, I hit the "Eject" button and the display says "Eject Error".
I've tried several times, and viewed several videos on YT on how to pair my LG Stylo4 cell phone with the truck, none of them work. Bluetooth on the phone is enabled. One of the YT videos I watched mentioned something about yanking the fuse for the SYNC accessory for a few seconds. Looking in the owner's manual; pages 236-241, I find no fuse related to SYNC.
The entertainment system is the standard no frills model... no navigation, no touch, no CD changer, etc. Just an AM/FM radio with a CD player compatible with MP3s.
I've got 2 days off from work and I'd like to get these issues resolved before jumping back on the treadmill. Any and all help would be most appreciated. Cheers!
Sorry about the obscenely large photos, don't know how to scale them down.
Your cd player --might be best to change whole head unit out for one with a screen/repairing old technology is a no win . Pairing to this old system is beyond me, my o5 has deluxe unit but its not up to that either . I think a new unit may give you that as well as backup camera capability plus i'm tired of cds ,I would much rather download my stuff on a stick usb like my wifes new explorer has .
My six cd player and subwoofer is okay but old stuff /I would not fix it . One usb stick can do what many many cds could .
The problem with the high beams was a blown 20a fuse; #35. I swapped it out with the 20a fuse for the horn relay; #26. The high beams and indicator on the instrument panel are now working, and the horn doesn't... which is what I expected to happen. Off to AutoZone to get a replacement fuse.
This is the fuse block diagram shown in the owner's manual, which is incorrect, even though it states that it's for 2004 - 2014 models:
This is the correct diagram and matches the fuse block in my truck. The arrows show which fuses where swapped out:
Now I've got another problem. It was suggested by someone on a YT video that a master reset of the SYNC system can be performed by disconnecting the + terminal of the battery for a few seconds. I did, and now the radio won't even turn on, something to do with the anti-theft system no doubt. The manual has no unlock code for the radio.
my old 6 disc radio ate a few CD's of mine...bit the bullet and swapped it out for a nice Pioneer double din. they even have the adapter plugs so you don't have to cut/splice anything. in this case Crutchfield was my friend

Unfortunately, that's not an option for me right now. Following advice on fordf150.net, I managed to get the CD out of the player, but it was such a hassle removing the bezel, removing the head unit and taking off the CD faceplate, retrieving the jammed CD, then reassembling everything... I don't think I'll be inserting another CD anytime soon. That's one dance I don't want to dance again! The CD was not warped, so I'm not sure why it got jammed up. Crutchfield may be in my future.
It should not screw anything up . So many repairs call for that . I have had to lift 100s of times . It does clear check engine lights . Anytime you have to work on touchy areas that you may short out fuses we pull battery terminals . So it shouldn't screw up your radio . I guess it could have made it cycle since you have a stuck cd .Maybe you should leave it off for 5 minutes or so . Check your fuses again .
Plus you haven't found out why headlamps blew fuse . Sometimes rodents get in there and eat wires . Very Very common .
Your antitheft system stops your truck from starting should not effect radio . Stops your start relay from getting grd signal from pcm .
We all make human mistakes that's how we learn . I hate it when I keep making the same mistake .

That truck doesn't have sync or bluetooth it wasn't a option in 2006. That's why you can't pair a phone.

Pulling the battery cable cleared the presets on the radio, which I expected, but killing the radio was not. I took photos of the head unit, came back in the house and started looking for a serial #, didn't find one. Went back out and hooked up the radio... lo & behold, it started working. The radio was disconnected for about 20-30 mins., not sure if that had anything to do with it. It doesn't appear that the radio needs an unlock code.
Valid point about why that headlamp fuse blew in the first place... something I need to keep an eye on.
Not doubting you, but it does raise the question of why the photo on the original post has a button with a phone icon above the AUX button.
It's a "Mute" button to mute the stereo when you get a call. AFAIK, there was no option to pair a phone to a factory stereo until Ford launched their Sync system.
