If you can find a shop equipped to do that kind of work, absolutely! Ford got smarter in later years and started drilling a particular engine's flywheel for every compatible clutch combination. Sure would have been nice if they'd done that in the 40's and 50's.

I don't think a 10" clutch will work with the 4-sp, problems with the disc hub length.
I pulled a 10" clutch out of an F-4 with the same 4-speed transmission one time. That's why I mentioned it.

I'd have to dig out the thread, but it works one way, not the other; it may be that an 11" won't work with a LD 3-sp, or the 10" won't work with the HD 3-sp and 4-sp. Must be the former if you've seen a 10" work with a 4-sp. A member did a trans swap and had all kinds of trouble using his old clutch size.

Hi Folks,

a wealth of knowledge is going into my thread, it can't get any better. I had a closer look with help of a mirror at 45° angle. The pressure plate definitely sits directly below the starter ring gear and not half an inch away as to be seen in Ross' picture. In fact it looks as if even for changing the starter ring gear one first would have to remove the pressure plate. As things work fine up to now, I definitely will buy exact the same size clutch as is in it now. It really is the 11" clutch.

While all clutch sizes are easily available, not too big a problem. With several other makes and prewar cars in my family we had to resurface all clutch related parts and have the disc relined in order to get them into service again.
