Yeah, this is the electrical vehicle nightmare you don't want. I was just curious if they had ruled out the modules and knew it was a wire "somewhere." And yes, messing with all the wires at random is just asking for other issues. I wonder if it's as crazy as a soldering issue on a module circuit board. What a mess! Any chance they have a spare CFR you can run for a while?

It's a long shot, but try to message the guy who does the powerstroke tech talk with ARod on YouTube. He seems very helpful and has people private message him for extra help. He seems like a knowledgeable tech who has seen it all.

Not to get your hopes up but in one video he did repair a truck that lost the glow plug indicator, but I think it still ran.

Let me know if you try him.

I'm not sure if they've ruled out modules. I fully trust this shop, they know their stuff, and they won't just throw parts at a problem like a dealer would.

Just to follow up on this...……..the truck is STILL having the issue. It was re-starting the past several times after only waiting 10 minutes, but it left me stranded today, and I got it towed to the shop actually stuck in the "no start no crank" mode, so hopefully they can fix it finally. All the other times, I couldn't get it to mess up for the mechanics.

I have a 2011 F250 6.7 and I'm having the same issue, sometimes will start and then I shut it off go back to start it and no glow plug light and just one click when I try to crank. Been going on for about a month now. A couple of times my truck would just be idling and then shuts off and won't start. Been to the shop three times. First time mechanic ran a new wire to fuse 38 and it was fine for about 2 days then started having the issue again. I've replaced the run start relay and the pcm relay and still no luck. I love my truck but this issue is really making me get frustrated at it

I've been fighting this problem since September. There's been days, I've been lucky I didn't have a match and a can of gas nearby haha. Read through this thread, Mike.....maybe there's something that might help you? My truck is at the shop, once again today. I will definitely report back if it gets fixed!

Appreciate it. My truck shut off on me while driving for the first time this morning, usually it would just quit while idling

Wow......that sucks. Mine has yet to shutoff while driving, or idling. It just won't re-start occasionally. Always seems to cure itself, and drives me and the mechanic bonkers.

Up until I read that the thing quit while driving I was going to offer up the hood sensor. But once running that shouldn't cause an issue. Are you guys taking the trucks to Ford or a 3rd party? I can't believe you guys are the only ones that have ever had this problem. Surely this has had to have happened to others and Ford should be able to dig in and either find "stuff to try" or do what you guys are doing; put out a call for help inside the Ford Diesel Mechanic community.

I'm using a 3rd party mechanic. The shop owner is extremely competent, and worked at Ford over 20 years. They are pretty much a Ford diesel specialist shop.
I am not sure what you mean about the hood sensor? With mine, it doesn't matter if the hood is open, or closed......they symptoms are the same.

*edit* I just talked to my shop, and he let me know the hood sensor, only affects starting for remote start. Thanks for the suggestion though, at this point, I'll take ALL advice!

Interesting read.

i understand folks believe the batteries are good but I would test the voltages of the batteries before starting and note if there is a correlation between low at rest predatory voltages when it does not start vs higher prestart voltages when it does start.

if the pattern is success when prestart voltages are higher i would then look for battery drains and possible alternator problems such as high reverse current in the diodes .

a less complicated test would be to put the batteries on a trickle charger overnight and disconnect the trickle charger to see if it starts .

if you have battery caps check the fluid level.

good luck

After MONTHS of fighting this issue, it turned out to be the simplest of things. It was the starter! The symptons never really pointed to it, and it had been checked. It turned out to be the jumper wire to the solenoid. How it was intermittent I'll never know. But anyways...….it is FIXED.
