I am going to go through my wiring harness tomorrow and see if I can find a loose or corroded wire. I just do not know why it does it “sometimes” and not all of the time.
Well my truck did it again this morning. It never happens at home, it makes sure to make me regret trusting it, and leaves me stranded. I'm hoping it will fix itself after 30 minutes like it usually does. If not, I'll tow it to the shop and let them look for the problem once again!
Mine does it pretty much every time I try and start it. It generally takes about 4-5 tries before I can hear the fuel pump or something like that engage. The mechanic that is looking at it right now thinks he has it narrowed to the plug under the parking brake. He said he may have it figured out. If so, I will let you know what he figures out.
Well my truck started back up, right when my ride arrived. SO frustrating. I'm not even bothering taking it to the shop, when it's not in no-start mode.
I took apart that plug by the parking brake on mine, it looked fine, and I made sure I seated the pins really well when I hooked it back up. I did that on the initial time that mine screwed up. The mystery continues....
Mine has gotten significantly worse in the past couple of months which made me think that it was somehow related to the colder weather. It did this a couple of time last year, but I do not remember it ever being an issue all summer. Now that temps are in the 40's and 50's it has become an issue again. The mechanic said that nothing would come on and he moved some of the wires behind the parking brake and it immediately came on. He said he is in the process of narrowing down which wire exactly. I hope he figures it out, because I love the truck, but this is super frustrating.
This morning I tried cycling the ignition like you said works on yours sometimes. That didn't work, I had to just wait like 30-40 minutes, then it fired up. So weird! I'm at the point, where I dont drive my truck, without a backup plan in place haha.
My truck hasn't messed up in a week, but I'm not holding my breath.
Something that COULD be causing this, is a bad key. If the security system has anything tripped on it at all, the truck won't crank. Next time my truck doesn't start, I plan on trying my spare key. No guarantees, but if feels like I've tried everything else at this point!
Well the truck did it again today, and the spare key didn't work either. So much for that theory. It started just fine at the house, I made a quick run to Home Depot, came out and it wouldn't crank. Called the wife for a rescue mission, went to lunch, came back and it fired right up. Very frustrating!
They have only had it a couple of weeks. I’ve had 3 different mechanics go through it so far with no luck. All have been able to recreate the problem but can’t find the source.
