The problem with religion
The problem with religion is that we are all going to hell.
Let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Some of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to hell. Since there are more than one of these religions and people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all people and all souls go to hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in hell to increase exponentially. So believe in what you want, doesn't matter anyway!
Actually, Jesus was against religion. It was the religious that crucified Him. The Pharisees were so hung up on religion that they couldn't see the truth. They were so worried about being righteous that they couldn't see the hypocrisy they were living with. As is with alot of religion today. Everyone always has to be so important, and puffed up. Jesus would not know many of the so called 'religious leaders' of today. Just as He didn't 2,000 years ago. When the Pharisees brought the adulteress to Jesus and demanded He stone her, according to the law, what did Jesus do ? He said "you who are without sin cast the first stone". But first He was silent, and bent down and wrote in the sand with a stick. What would you guess He was writing ? My guess it was all the Pharisees names and their respective sins. All the Pharisees got up and one by one they walked out. This is what religion does. No thanks to religion for me, as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
It is not original to find faith inconsistent with intelligence. I have had to struggle with this one myself. I have come to accept it since it seems to be a fact. It has something to do with being an independent thinker that makes me suspicious of the coupling of faith and intelligence although I have met numerous examples myself.
You could probably take luv4ford's comment with a grain of salt. How could an intelligent person not know which century we are living in?

Yea, I'll keep that in mind and I guess this time you've saved me from overheating
I do consider myself intelligent and was by no means trying to sling mud in any direction. I hope my apologies are accepted.
I do not believe that I said " stupid, dimwitted, brainless morons" I would never say something like that unless I knew you to be such and obviously I dont know you.

I believe in many things, but I struggle with the "faith" thing. Should I believe something just because someone wrote about it a long time ago. Science tells me different, and if these things occured then, then why not now? because we know too much?
I guess I should have thought a little more before throwing out a question like that, I certainly was not expecting the fury that followed, but I honestly thought you would all get what I was trying to ask....
now if I were to believe that he in fact did rise from the dead then the following would substaniate it...
A) If Jesus remained dead, how can you explain the testimony of the disciples? Forty days later, you hear their voices with shouts of excitement, "We’ve seen a dead man walking!"
B) If Jesus remained dead, how can you explain the faithfulness of the disciples to the testimony of the resurrection even in the face of their own deaths? Of the 11 disciples, only one died of old age—John—and he was exiled to Patmos, an island work camp. They died as martyrs with the truth of the resurrection on their lips.
C) If Jesus remained dead, why did 500 people say they saw Him alive (see I Corinthians 15:6)?
D) If Jesus remained dead, how can you explain the credibility of the witnesses? In the first century, the people questioned the first–hand witnesses…and their story was not proven wrong.
E) If Jesus remained dead, how can you explain the inability of the first century skeptics to deal with the resurrection with an alternative explanation? All the power of Rome and of the religious establishment in Jerusalem was geared to stop the Christian faith. All they had to do was to dig up the grave and to present the corpse. They didn’t.
F) If Jesus remained dead, how can you explain the reality of the Christian church and its phenomenal growth in the first three centuries of the Christian era? Christ’s Church covered the Western world by the fourth century. A religious movement built on a lie could not have accomplished that.
G) If Jesus did not rise from the dead, his closest friends were an extraordinary compulsive group of liars. This charge does not fit well with the ethical caliber of the writings of Jesus’ disciples. Virtually all religions now concede that the writings of the apostles represent a very high level of morality.
but I still have problems understanding is this so uncommon?
Big Orn I was trying to be nice, and had no ill will I assure you

Now I see you for a woman (blushes and embarrassment) and quite a sharp one too. I hope you know I was just playing.
Einstein way back in the 20th was a believer in God too so there must be something to account for it.
Is that Los Angeles or Louisiana you live in? If SoCal where?

Ah! The unexplained power that women have over men!
Sinjin! Get back here!
I live in Studio City.
apology accepted

I had no idea that it would get so heated for a question I thought would be a good debate over Science and Faith.
and thanks for noticing that I am female

I guess females that love Fords are unusual.....
I love a good debate!!!

In all fairness you couldn't have known how long this discussion has been running with the attendant feather ruffling you would expect.
You are correct about the infrequency of female participants here so most welcome you are.
I think feather ruffling is a good thing, it keeps you on your toes and begs you to think!
I am still thinking about my answer to ken04

I was just reading everything mostly because I am interested in a truck, then I saw the "other" forums
well I am sure you know how it goes...
Look forward to many more chats and hopefully no one will take anything bad again.
