No... didn't you ask me to find in the Bible where it said Jesus was a carpenter? Maybe I was just mistaken, but I thought you did, so I said I thought everyone knew he was a carpenter.

I know what the common assumptions are but I thought you could provide a Biblical reference as to where it is clearly stated that Jesus spent his early adulthood working as a carpenter.

Sinjin - you remind me of a man I once knew - He had a bulby nose and a flat chin, one good eye, no teeth, scars from head to toe and the first thing he said when we went out on the town was, "Think we will get in a fight again tonight, Big Orn?"

Look at Mark 6:3

You will find that this only touches on the fact, but it is a fact none the less.

Now - Where was Jesus for all those years? Even though I can't prove it, I'm with True and say that he worked hard at carpentry for a good many of those years. And I also think he was a very strong man with bulging muscles. But this is my belief, no proof.

Big Orn,

I honestly wasn't lookin' to fight but was curious about this carpentry thing since there are those who believe Jesus travelled
outside of the "Holy Land" during those missing years.

I would be lying though if I said I didn't like a good scrap, verbal or otherwise. BTW I am not covered with scars, mine are on the inside.

Thanks for the reference, I'll look it up in my Bible.
Yes I have one.

p.s. you're starting to grow on me.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you consider yourself as far as Christianity goes?

true,

I come from a very Catholic family. My father's three sisters are nuns. Two of these spent over 20 years in latin America. Many clergy are family friends.

I am myself an atheist but have always felt that the ethics promoted by Jesus are very worthwhile. I find no fault with trying to live a life long on mercy, compassion and love.

I may not call myself a Christian but I do try to act in a "Christian" manner when given the choice.

I expect no reward in the end nor do I fear eternal punishment and think such motivations childish. No offense intended.

For me a righteous atheist is the "highest" form of a man.

I believe We are all We have and so I don't look outside of humanity to find the value or meaning of it all.

Something like that.....

Interesting conversations. We all look thru life's situations with our own colored lens. You either do or don't believe Scriptures. If you don't any discussion doesn't matter, 'cause you don't believe it anyway.

If you do believe the Scriptures a look at 1 Corinthians tells us you are CALLED. Greek adjective meaning: divinely selected and approved. Some hear, some respond. THOSE are the followers called Christians. They received God's wisdom (those outside Him have worldly wisdom and can not understand spiritual things), Righteousness (being right with God's based on Christ's death), Sanctificatio(set apart for God's use), Redemption (deliverance for an evil by payment of a price).

Go to Matthew and study the parable of the Two Sons. You'll discover the tax collectors (hated in their time) and prostitutes would get into Heaven before the worldly wise!

Oh, you can change your mind at the last moment (if you are wise enough to know when that is) at still avoid eternal separation, but you won't have much on the scale for what you did for Christ's kingdom.

Every discussion matters, belief or not for therein lies the basics of acceptance and understanding. I do not need to believe in your religion to accept you as an equal human being. I do, however, need to understand where your beliefs basis is founded. Being without understanding is what leads to ignorance and foolish hatred, monotheism, bigotry, not to mention a whole lot of other mean and nasty things. Things that are indeed and in deed completely "Unchristian-like". That being said, I absolve myself from this "discussion"

OK, Here's my 2cents

RELIGION is of the Devil! And yes I do belive in the creator of all living things, And Jesus.
There is so many different religion's in the world and they are all of MAN not our Creator.

I do use the king james bible as a foundation of my belife's, However so do many diferent religions. They cant all be right!

So Many years ago I prayed for understanding and began to read. I began to grow over the years and develop a relationship with my creator.
I dont claim to be pure, or have all the answers. But what I do have is a conscience that I use as one means of communication with my creator.

Sence this realationship began I have been set free of alchol, Walked away from car wrecks that should have killed me, actualy seen angles and seen many mericals in my life as well as outhers.
Our creator said ALL will have a chance to hear the truth, many will reject it. We have been given a choice to belive or not, The choice is OURS

MANY will be Called FEW will be Chosen

Some will call me names out of disbelif and others will understand, I hope I have planted a seed in at least one and it will be watered and nurtured by the Grace of God

I want every person in here who has different versions of the Bible to read each version for 1 chapter each. Read the same chapter out of each Bible. ie: NIV, NKJV, KJV

Read them and tell me how much they differ.

idrivehotrods:

(I know you were just saying it about religions, and I agree with you.)

Question

Maybe a little off topic but here goes.....

How could any intelligent 20th century person believe that Jesus rose physically from the dead?

So, those of us that believe He has are stupid, dimwitted, brainless morons!!???

Do you believe in anything? If so, would you like to express that belief in a manner that will not, cannot, make you look unintelligent? Do you have proof that He did not?

If not, then do not resort to name-calling!

Big Orn,

You don't have to take it so personally. At least she didn't say half-intelligent! Just kidding.

What ticks me off is having a good topic where one might learn and then someone steps in with a statement like that!

PS - How'd you know it was a She?
