Coolant leak

So I noticed coolant dripping from the steering stabilizer onto the concrete under my EX a week ago 10/20, looked around as best I could to see where it was coming from. Hoses looked good, thermostat housing was dry, water pump looked ok. Buddy of mine who was a really good tech has gotten out of the business so I reluctantly made an appointment with one of the local Ford dealers for Tuesday 10/23 to have it gone over before I ran it to Martinsville VA for the NASCAR race. I got a call from the service manager around noon that the tech couldnt pin point the leak but seems to think its coming from the timing cover and water pump, He then proceeds to tell me that the motor needs to be pulled out of the truck. My immediate response was dont touch it and put the tech on the phone. The tech tells me the same story and also suggests that we replace the oil pan because it has some surface rust and it will cost about $3000k for gaskets, parts and labor. The tech then has the audacity to say that with those issues and since it has the original injectors, that I might want to get a reman motor through Ford because it carries a 2 year warranty. I laughed and told him to park my EX outside and dont touch a thing. EX didnt go to VA this year, she was upset.....

Anyone know of any honest reliable diesel techs in central NJ? Is there even a shade of truth ( I have to ask) of having to pull the motor to service a water pump or other related coolant issues

Heck, I'd try some Bars Stop Leak before spending that kind of money.

Are you able to spray your radiator and front of engine clean? If so, clean the area and let it dry, then start your engine and as it warms up, camp underneath until you see coolant.

Don't forget the inner cooler they have crimped on ends with rubber seals. They can blow out.

Heater control valve? They crack, yet look normal with the engine off.

Get under it and inspect the water pump weep hole. The water pump replacement on a 7.3 is a simple job, you'll need the fan clutch removal tool, rent-able from Auto Zone or somewhere else.
Clean the engine as mentioned, and add some coolant UV additive appropriate for your coolant type.

There is a coolant/ heater port on the front of the passenger side head that may very well be where your coolant leak is coming from. Follow the heater hoses from heater control valve down to the front of the passenger side head and you'll see what I'm talking about. If it's leaking onto the stabilizer, I'm willing to bet that's where it's coming from.

All great suggestions guys, been traveling for work for the past week and then some, just got back this am, havent had a chance to do anything with the truck yet. Ill look at everything suggested and let you all know what I find. Of course I could just get a new motor from Ford as the tech suggested, it does come with a 2 year warranty afterall

Thank you all for the help
