Chip opinions.

I am going to upgrade my chip. I decided that I would rather go with a flip chip rather than a tuner, to have switch on the fly. I have it narrowed down to 2, so if you guys could give me some info/feedback on the 2, I would be grateful.

Both chips are Western Diesel.

1. Tri-power chip

2. Quad power chip

Thanks guys!

I'd say the Quad Power.....supposed to have better programming than the original tri power did (doesn't advance the injector timing as much) and puts more power to the ground. I've been told that the Quad Power is also customizable if you need anything changed, shift points, fuel, etc. Also supposed to have pretty good programming of the trans. too.

If you need info on a place to buy from, and a guy that has a lot of knowledge on the Quad Power let me know.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, let me know about your contact. He's not a friend of yours is he? One that could "hook me up" with a good deal, perhaps?

Nope, not a friend of mine. I just bought an air filter off of him and am looking into his complete fuel system upgrade......maybe some other goodies too. Been in contact with him just about daily for the last week or so with some questions I had about certain setups and products....great guy to deal with.

Anyway, I tried to email you but it says you don't wish to recieve emails. So, click on the PROFILE link under this post next to where it says OFFLINE....and email me, I'll email his info back to you.
Or post your email here or enable your email and I'll send it right out to you.....

I'm looking for a chip/tuner with settings that provide a boost to MPG. I really don't want a program that adds 100 HP, just something modest that will improve economy. What are some decent products that achieve this?

Here's what the Quad Power is:

The Western Diesel Quad Power chips mean business!!

Select between stock and 3 distinct power levels as you drive down the road..
Increased mileage
Improves automatic transmission shift
Use of an accurate pyrometer as well as a larger exhaust system is recommended while using the high-output mode.
It you install our complete Pro-Shot kit, you have the potential to add up to 156hp and approximately 354lb. ft of torque.

The power levels are -

Stock - OEM Hp and Torque levels
Level II - Tow - 55-60 Hp and 110-130 ft./lbs. of torque.
Level III - Economy - 70-85Hp and 140-160 ft./lbs. of torque
Level IIII - High Output (aka - OMG, Warp Drive) - 120+Hp and 200+ ft.lbs. of torque

A intake, exhaust, and a mild chip, or flip chip with a mild setting (of course gauges are a must have) and driving normal (not hammering the throttle all the time) should give you some better mpg........

A program that adds 100hp+++ sure is fun to have though.

Hope this helps.

What kind of mpg increase are you talking about.

Depends on what other mods you have on your truck and driving style......in local driving (mostly 45-55mph) I saw 2 mpg increase, and on the highway (75-85+mph)I saw about a 3 mpg increase. Not much, but it's something........it's not the main reason to buy a chip....the main reason would be for more power.

Hope this helps.

I've got a Diablo Delta flip chip, and have determined that if I can behave myself. the tow program can/will improve mpg by 1.5mpg across the board: city/freeway. The extreme program gives the same mpg as stock, but I get where I'm going much sooner!!
