When I had the AIS filter installed, I used my factory gauge. Like others have said, it's just a basic vacuum gauge to indicate when the filter is at capacity. The spring in the AIS gauge is simply weaker.
The running theory is that with an AIS if you're pulling enough vacuum you're nearly at capacity due to the lagre size of filter medium and the ability of the filter to over-reach that of most 7.3s (stock).
With the normal filter, it begins to pull vacuum much sooner due to the significantly lower surface area.
