Air filter minder keeps tripping after new Powermax, bigger injectors, rewritten tunes etc. I only have 20k on the OEM Donaldson filter and just installed a brand new one and first thing I get when leaving the driveway is a air filter warning light and the minder is physically tripped. Should I be running a different filter that moves more air or what? I thought the Donaldson filters were good for up to around 500hp? I may be over that, not sure but it wasn’t an issue until after I did all these recent mods and installed 175/30’s, Powermax, etc.
I recently installed the S&B CAI. I got the Dry filter. I do like the sound with the new CAI. Not sure weather its better than factory or not, but it sure is nice.

I just ordered the same one from RiffRaff. I didn’t expect the stock intake to restrict flow that much after everything I read on here. Anyone need a new Donaldson air filter?
The stock filter is at the upper end of the preferred restriction value for an engine as-designed, but has such high dust holding capacity that it doesn't get much more restrictive for a long time. I think it's around 15-20 inches of water in stock form (I don't know the exact CFM intake airflow of the 6.0), and the indicator pops at 25. Add a bunch more flow, and hitting 25" will happen.
I think you might be underestimating your hp level... so maybe you're really at that point where the stock filter doesn't flow enough.
I've seen the restriction curves of some Donaldson filters, including the one used in our truck. So I'm not making this all up, but it's based on incomplete data .
I have a stage 1.5 turbo, stock injectors, stock fuel pump, and run the Atlas 40 with a Gearhead SRL+ tune. I have no issue w/ restrictions through the stock air filter.
SmackDaddy - do you have an upgraded fuel pump/delivery system?
(I don't know the exact CFM intake airflow of the 6.0)
(365/1728) x (3,300/2) x 1.75 = 610 CFM max
(Cubic Inch Displacement divided by 1728) multiplied by (RPM @ Peak HP divided by 2 for four cycle engines) multiplied by 1.75 volumetric efficiency due to being turbo charged equals reasonable estimation of maximum cubic feet per minute of air flow.

Powermax with billet Riffraff compressor wheel, 3.5” downpipe with 4” straight pipe no cat or muffler, 175/30 Holders, Atlas40 tuned for larger injectors, Gearhead custom Reduced Fuel tune, Driven Diesel regulated return fuel system set at 65 psi and CFS all aluminum intercooler. I have lots of other mods but these are the meat and potatoes.
I called Razzi and a few others with similar setups and they all needed more air flow so I went ahead and ordered the S&B stage 2 filter system. $299 from Riffraff and the replacement dry filters are about $40 so $25 cheaper than a stock Donaldson element. If it pays for itself with savings from filters I’d say I got my mileage out of this block and will probably rebuild it and drive it until the wheels fall off and then some!

My main question was if you are still using the stock 6.0L fuel pump?

I thought I included that, sorry! Yes for now I am running the stock HFCM. I had Gearhead rewrite the reduced fuel tune twice to reduce fuel delivery until I install the 6.7 fuel pump and Beans sump of the tank.
I can really romp it now and my fuel pressure only drops from 65 to 50 or so. With the first Reduced Fuel tune fuel pressure would drop to 30 if I really got on it. I didn’t want to risk my new injectors so I had them cut it back for now.
Yeah, you are using more fuel and air than I am! NPCCPartsman has always told me that if I went any higher on horsepower that I would need to be looking at more fuel delivery and higher air flow (including an aftermarket air filter). Right now though, the stock system seems to be doing just fine.
The good news is Riffraff is in Carrolton, Texas so I ordered my S&B filter kit today and it will be here tomorrow. It seems like my build has been $2k here, $700 there, $3k here, another $900 gone, $1200 etc etc. Now that I’ve blown my two year job bonus I have a pretty badass Excursion and have done every bit of the wrenching myself other than the alignment I’m getting Friday. You guys have been a great help and I appreciate the vast amount of knowledge here. This truck flat out rips and is super fun to drive. I am pretty sure the new filter will make this thing come alive tomorrow. I hope a built tranny is not in my future. I try to keep the lead foot under control but man it’s fun to drive something with 35” tires that rolls like this! I know some of you would laugh at 550 horsepower or whatever it is making but it’s fun for me.
I popped the hood yesterday after pulling my tractor to a friend’s house to help him with some dirt work and the indicator was sucked in even further than it had with the stock filter system. This particular filter system is supposed to flow approximately 32% more than stock. I ordered a new Motorcraft filter minder last night because I am thinking it is faulty. Just at idle I can feel how much air my motor is moving and it’s quite a bit of vacuum there. I may do the Zoodad Mod so it can get more air and also pull the clear lid off the filter housing and bolt on the less restrictive rubber top that has an opening. I will report back with more photos and a solution. I hate dead end threads that leave everyone hanging!
Old girl pulls my Kubota L3400 like a dream! I backed the tractor up after this photo to get more weight on the trailer axles. Those X and modified C codes from ATS ride wonderfully both loaded and unloaded.
