stock air filter mod
I currenlty have a K&N air filter in the stock intake assembly. Would modifying the filter container to be an "open" intake make any differences in performance? I have seen this done before and am very curious.

You mean to have the element exposed to the interior engine? Yes, it will hurt performance. The intake design from the factory is a cold air setup, so its beyond me why anyone would need to tinker with it. For what its worth, the basic Motorcraft filter is better than the K&N you are running.

Thanks for the reply. My only question is, what is the difference between removing the stock housing around the filter and the open air intake kits you can buy? Also, you two are the first people I've heard say that a paper filter is better than the K&N. Guess I fell under the hype of the K&N.
